Were you trying to buy from the market? If so, what was the message when you bid for them?
If not, in what way were you trying to buy? Bear in mind that the "Buy Now" option was removed some time ago to stop people generating drivers, arming them with legendary special abilities and training them in farming accounts before transferring to their primary account.

Yes, that's the issue. You can no longer buy drivers or staff that are out of contract with "Buy Now". You have to hope they hit the transfer market... Don't hold your breath waiting for that to happen.
The exception to this rule is if the driver or staff has previously been employed by your team. In this case you can still "Buy Now" for 9 tokens. This is why it's a good idea to save your drivers/staff to your shortlist. Then if you forget to renew their contracts, you can still retrieve them.

Ah that sucks, but there’s staff on my shortlist that I have never employed that I could still hire. Why is that?
