 I like the live weather feature!

It would just be nice to have the opportunity to change beetween intermediates and full wets after i am locked, without paying for a membership!
How should i predict the amount of rainfall in front.
Its a roulette!

Even subscribers can't change their tyres once preparation is locked. Everyone either estimates it rightly or wrongly, and change by pitting during the race.

Most of the time the conditions are predictable, but when we're running hundreds of races every single day, it's not surprising that one or two people every few days feel they have been hard done by if they went the wrong way.

Well I just had to race on full wets in light rain and they punctured because I was unable to alter my strategy during the race, I was expecting heavy rain like the homepage showed but apparently the weather on there means jack, it stayed light rain all throughout qualification and the race.

Ok. Well so far in 1 season, we have had it where the weather went from Raining to Dry in 1 min... yeah and that was 1 min AFTER the lock down !!!!!

Also have a look at Brazil 21/01/2012 !!!! It's changed about 10 times in 1 day.. I looked when I woke and it was dry.... Then about 2hrs before the race, it was Thunder storms.. I checked 15 mins ago and it was light rain and with 7 mins until my race, it's DRY AGAIN !!!!!

So where you get the point that it's predictable is god knows where, as it's changed so many times today and also last night was the same....

One of our mates is on the free 2 play and it was dry 5 mins before lock down.. He set his car up and so on.. 2 mins before the start. It's raining.. So he ended up going to bed, fed up and close to quitting the game as he re-pitted every time he changed tyres because it was change to dry softs for 1 lap / ( No other option but to follow the weather) and then re-pit the next lap to change to inters... So he was fed up.. I don't blame him..

Sorry, but look at ALL racing formats... Tyres are stuck unless it changes from wet to dry or visa versa... Then the teams are allowed to change without issues before the lights are green....

I think the option of your setups should be locked except tyres if it's raining or it's dried up from lock down to green light... Either that or it changes auto and then that way, you don't need to worry about being on the wrong tyres.

Sorry if it sounds like a rant, it's not meant to be, just stating that the weather is not predictable at all..

Just me 2 cents.

Add a slider - "when driver feels he/she is on the wrong tyres" from 0 (don't change) to 100 (change ASAP), like in BATracer. That will allow somewhat of a relief for the free-to-play accounts.

There needs to be an Advanced Strategy Setting which allows you to change from wets to inters (and vise versa) depending on if the rain is more or less heavy.

I don't think it would be difficult for us to fit the chosen wet weather tyre for the race start. If the demand is high enough we'll do it.

What I like about the current system is when the teams at the front get it wrong, it's a fantastic opportunity for teams at the back to score points. It's not like the weather changes between preparation and the start at every single race. But when you have thousands of races running every single day inevitably one or two people end up going the wrong way, then making disgruntled posts about the weather system.

Anyway, if enough people want it changed we'll change it. We're always listening to the feedback on the forums.

Actually I think changing might be the best resort.
In the last race I checked multiple times before the lockdown if the weather was dry. As soon as the countdown reached 30min, the weather changed to a raining state, meaning that my hard tyres were the wrong choice. I got a miserable qualification result, however 3 laps into the race the rain stopped, whereas I had just pitted to wet tyres. Meaning that I did one extra pit stop, just because I was not able to start on the wet tyre.

I do understand the frustration about the weather, but it can work the other way too. I had a race where I did not realise it was going to rain, but most of my competitors did. Whilst they qualified brilliantly, I langiushed at the back, but came storming through to win, when the track dried.

How many times last year, did we watch one F1 team telling its driver no rain in the next ten minutes & then a different team telling their driver to expect rain. Despite all of their technology & resources they are unable to predict the weather. Why should we be able to predict it?

Perhaps there could be another research opportunity for our teams....weather forecasting....

I have read a number of threads where people are saying they have loads of money; maybe they could spend it on a dedicated weather person?

I worry that the game already has enough predictable data. You can measure fuel consumption accurately; tyre wear; even strategy in some cases. I think it is good to have some unpredictability & adversity that needs to be overcome. If all data can be predicted, then the game becomes just a design race doesn't it?

I am a paid account at the moment and I'm not just posting for myself here..

I am apart of a PC Community and we have 8 drivers playing this. We have paid and free and we have all been sat in TeamSpeak taking about the issues the game has at the moment..

We have been playing for a good month and have noticed that the weather does change a lot... Think about the time of year it is as well... This is not helping the changes either..

1 BIG BIG thing I would like to point out is the forcast.. Not one or two times but several times the forcast has said one thing and it's been nothing like that race..

2 days ago, the prediction for a race was thunder storms and with 2 hrs to go it was light rain.. By the time the race came it was sunny and not 1 drop of rain...

All I am trying to do is to give you some feedback on what a group of players are seeing and all talking about together.

I am also a member of Race Department, another big community and there are a lot of their members playing this as well.. So i'll be asking them what they think and reporting any feedback they give.

We all seem to share the same views... Why work on things like 3d looking cars and having skings on them things??? There are so many basics that still need sorting... Thats a Codemasters trick and from what i've read from these forms, you have a good core and guessing that the players want and not giving them what they need / deserve will make them leave sooner.. I personaly like this game and hope it grows the way it should.

Jack, I may be alone but I like the way the system is good as it is now.

For those who wants to have exact prediction of the weather buy a supercomputer  like they do in for weather prediction :D
Predicting the weather has never be and will never be an exact science (at least in the years to come). So why do we have to have the weather predictable ?
If I understood correctly, the weather data is based on a live feed so the game is just displaying the information it is receiving. In that case don't blame the game, blame the people / system sending the feed. If you want a tip on the people providing the feed, you can get the same one if you want and you will be able to have detailed prediction for the weather, look for the copyright next to the prediction and you will know where to search. I hope this helps you.

Rob, you were talking about what players want. If you read the forums you will see that one feature that is really asked is the ability to give simple live orders using the live timing interface. Which will be a great bonus for everybody playing wheter you are paying or not. I would like to give more challenge to drivers using 2D by using a little bit of your head and some good strategy, you might give some managers a run for their money.

I prefer a game which gives me some challenge, whether it is fair or not it doesn't matter because we are all on the same boat. The weather issue affects everybody, why are some people able to handle it better than other ? Because they use more their head than others ? Even though it's a game, some people take it seriously and they look at every option that can make them win.

In short I like the challenge of the game and hope if they improve something, they improve the core of the game so that the simulation gets more realistic.

What is good to note is that we are all fans of the game or else we would not be here trying to improve things.

I have a feeling the Brits are the ones who would be the least likely to complain about the weather - they live with the problem all their lives!
But if you live in a climate that is very 'predictable' then it must be difficult to understand this type of gameplay.

To be honest Jack I don't think there is an answer to this.  You might change things simple because that is what people are complaining about - but the silent vast majority are quite happy!  Personally I will agree with whatever you think best as we have been down this road so many times.

Totally behind this.

The orders to switch wet weather tires is seriously deficient at the moment. There needs to be some way of instructing the change of tires depending how hard it's raining, and not just a on/off type of a switch in place right now.

We just had a race where all but two qualified on slicks despite it being heavy rain, one on inters, and one on full wets. And as they then started on that tyre the race was over after effectively one lap. To make matters worse they all switched to inters not full wets, so were 10 seconds off the pace anyway and most finished several laps behind.

There needs to be some changes here. No way should a driver in pouring rain go out and qualify on slicks. Same with the race start, your not going to start a race in pouring rain on them. In F1 this would not be allowed, infact remember Japan 2007 when the Ferrari's were forced to swap their inters for wets for it being considered dangerous. Secondly there has to be some better options for those on inters when its raining too heavy and needing to change to wets.

Also, slightly off topic but still fundamental to the weather system as it would be a big help in wet conditions as well, it would help a lot if you could tell which tyre the other drivers were on. If someone puts on hard tyres and they are not working unless you are watching as they pit you might not see which tyre they are on.

If you make your setup during wet conditions you have higher df settings etc, so starting the race on "right" tyres just saves you the extra pitstop, you will still be off in pace compared to someone with a dry setup.

My suggestion is to keep it as it is, but make sure all is on the right tyre, dont start a race with softs if its raining, or on full wets when its dry...
its the same in RL formula one, if its raining during the starts its mandatory with full wets for all grid.

What?? Sorry but your wrong on that.. Don't forget in F1 they have the ability to change wing angles in the pits stops.. We don't....

If it's raining during qually and race time is dry, they are allowed to change tyres before the start of the race..

It's a Health and Safety thing in the rule book.. They allow 20 + cars to come into the pits at the same time, but that is a nightmare for the FIA as it's dangerous to have that many drivers pitting at the same time.. Also works visa versa, dry in qually and wet race is a free change..

You honestly think they will allow a whole field of cars to start a wet race on dry tyres?? Err nope.... All they will do is a lap of aquaplaning and not many would get around to the pits...

pardon, did you even read what i wrote?

i think you are saying the same thing as me...

what i said is. in this game we cant change wings in pitstop so therefor in this game its most important to get the practicerounds in the right weather. my suggestion was, if its raining during the start of a race in this game, then all field should start on wets, even if you have selected softs in your strategy.

This will be changed soon so that the wet/dry compound you have specified in the advanced strategy will be used automatically at the start of the race if it is raining and your compound selection for the first stint does not match the weather condition.

That will not address the problem.

In the race Jamie M referred to, everyone but two players had their advance strategy rain tires set to inters. It was the wrong choice. With your proposed change the situation will be exactly the same.

If the rain is heavy, the tires should be full wets. If the rain is light, the tires should be inters. Regardless of any advanced strategy choices. Maybe allow "sliders" to define where the line between heavy and light rain falls, but you should not allow the game to put cars on the track with the wrong wet tires (or slicks during rain).

The underlying issue is that players can't react to weather changes after the 30-minute preparation lockout. We can't adjust wings, we can't change tires or tire strategies. This is not how Formula One works for a good reason. And with the weather changing as abruptly as it does in the game, this makes the strategy choices a complete lottery during wet weather races.

You should look into this situation a little longer. Your solution will not fix the issue.

Sound simple doesn't it!

So I gather that one opinion is to have some 'slider' or something in the set-up page to allow the drivers to change tyres after set-up and before the qualifying race depending on the heaviness of the rain.

A second opinion is to have the 'computer' make those choices but at what point does the 'manager' take over again?
