Where do I start? I've been playing this game for 7 years, sometimes with minor interruptions. With this update, the game has taken a very bad turn. I read the conversations of the managers in the Hungarian leagues all the way through today, and I have to say that many people are quitting the game because of the changes. And not because of the bugs, because they will obviously be fixed. Why should league managers be deprived of the freedom to individually set the properties of a league? Many people don't want to go to short races.. Many want to refuel, others don't. Many preferred long seasons. Rubber rule, refueling, 100% race distance. That's why it was good that you could choose which one you liked and entered it. If all leagues are the same now, there is no choice. Not to mention that there are communities built over many years in the leagues, which have now been broken up.

The choice still exists if you boost your league. It's only players who want their entertainment provided at no cost who have to race in standard leagues.

It seems fair to me that in order to get the same benefits as the people who support the development of the game and the provision of servers, I should also make a contribution.

IMO, pay-to-play is much better than pay-to-win.

While I understand your frustration, I was financially supporting the game to keep it alive for you prior to these updates. I don't think people realise, there was no choice. We had to change direction and the entire model to sustain the future of iGP.

Many tiny fragmented leagues producing no revenue where everyone plays for free and we work on features which produce no revenue is not a sustainable model. The new model is sustainable and we're going to be able to grow again.

Was it a bitter pill to swallow for many? Yes, I don't doubt it. I certainly would not have taken this path if I felt there was a better alternative. Triggering loss aversion psychology in a large audience would not be top of my list of things to do in a normal week.

The reality is though that this is the future we can sustain. We will be developing lots of new features we never could have supported before now, starting this month with Classic mode (league-level mandatory 2D, no W2W physics), and Offline mode (league-level mandatory spectate mode only racing). There will be plenty more on the way too, you will see many benefits, once we are beyond the short-term platform shift.

The other benefit the new system brings is the unified community aspect, where we will be able to organise events around this shared global schedule now. There are many reasons this system will work out better once it's fully up to speed. It's only been live 2 weeks so far, and is being refined quickly.
