I went to join the race with Objective "finish the race"
When the race ended the screen said objective failed as I didnt finish 2nd or better.

This has happened multiple times now

CEO & CTO medal 51769 years 241 days ago From what you describe I think the wrong objective is being shown before the race. This is not a normal objective for a team with many races under its belt. I will investigate later.

I found the issue, and it can only happen if you have the home page open before practice is locked and leave it open until the race starts. I'm pretty sure clicking "Home" shortly after practice has locked will give you the correct objective.
I will let you know when this is fixed, but in the meantime you can ensure you see the right one by loading or reloading the home page after practice has locked.
James Greer medal 50009 years 241 days ago While you are it Jack you to force lock research the same way you done the setup page in the past. We are able to right click and open research in a new tab change and save stuff after the button is locked and faded out.
