I saved up some tokens, so was able to insta-build two upgrades for the Simulator. Going back to the training page, I was expecting to make greater steps with every click of the training button. Instead, the steps seem to be smaller.. Where I used to gain ~11 points of progress before, now it's only 8. What could be the reason for this behavior? I remember thinking the same thing last time I upgraded the simulator.

It should definitely increase it. here's the exact code for reference, which calculates the extra bonus the simulator brings:
($progressGain * ($simLvl / $maxLvl))
FYI maxLvl is 20.

And progressGain is a constant?

It's a variable based on the driver age, overall rating and the manager level cap.

So could any of those variables have caused the decrease in progress gain? Driver is and was 27 years old, and I don't think my level cap has changed.
Can you see if the progress gain has changed the last 24 hours? Is it logged somewhere?

The one thing which could decrease it is the age of the driver. If they got older, it could have slowed down in theory. But if you had just levelled up, and upgraded the simulator, it should be more than enough to offset that I think.
Training is only logged when skills update, not when the progress bar updates. So I can't really check if it slowed down. :(

Still gaining only 8 percent of progress per training :-( Is it possible to calculate if that is the right value?

Getting close to the cap, so it is slowing down I would imagine

Yes, so a skill update could have caused the slow down.
My drivers usually train 11% as well, but shortly before turning 5 stars they train 8%, then I think, but not sure, it's 5% for one level at 5 stars (yellow) and after that they hit the soft cap of 3% for 5 stars (red).

Alright, so it's good news then.. My driver is 5 stars soon :p
What a coincidence that this happened at the same time I upgraded the simulator 2 steps at once.. I will keep an eye on the progress and level, to confirm your theory Daniel / James. Thanks
