I was on 16 acceleration and i just logged on and now it is 5 i have also lost all other starts down to 1

Your league just finished its season and now a new one begins. That's your new car for the next season. Those new cars each season will get better once you finish a whole season because your CD develops it (it gets more design points added to it) each race of the previous season. What's also important is to get the best CD (star rating and strength/weakness) once your leveling up slows enough so you can get some breath and things in order.
