So, my race just finished. It could be that there was an earthquake near Monza during the race, but I assume this is a bug (Must've been a pretty enormous bug since it caused an earthquake)
That was no earthquake. It's inactive teams that have their suspension fail. Those parts generally wear the fastest when the cars are not continually fixed by active managers
Use this season to learn the game then start looking for a new league that is more active and move after you current season ends to avoid penalties
Thanks, will do!
This does raise a new question though: Does this mean that all the inactive players will probably retire in all the remaining races or do they magically get new/fixed parts for next race since they retired today?

Actually, they might make it to the end of the other races. Italy is just a particularly high wear track for the cars and engines due to the speeds which play a big factor in the wear calculations.
Leagues like this will automatically be shut down by the game as inactive if you and the other manager leave. Most of them are probably people who joined on a mobile phone then didn't stay active, it happens a lot with apps in general, you're very lucky if you can hang on to just 30% of the people who join an app. The churn rate is much higher than desktops.
The best way to play is to make a league with friends and race together. It's good for banter as well as activity. Bragging rights are always a plus.
