Does Driver weight affect lap times

I have 2 drivers with decent stats all driving state between 14-18 with 18 talent but my driver is 176kg I am getting beat by a driver which is 15 talent with stats around 10-13 but is only 141kg, I am just wandering if the driver weight impacts that much? as i have a young driver with a high talent who is around the 145kg mark but dont want to spend 15 tokens on promoting them if it isnt going to make too much difference

I am new to this game but my league host said that driver weight affects your overall weight including fuel weight, so he told me to train physical first to reduce the weight. And yeah it does affect your lap times. Hope it helps.
