Why are they so high? Having spent about 10 tokens to find a higher talent driver and 15 to hire him his wage was 350. My current drivers are 110 each. So my youth driver would cost more in wages than my others combined whilst only being at 2 stars compared to my other drivers 5. Of course in time I could train him to be as good with better talent but his wage will have increased even more by then. Youth drivers should have low wages that increase over time so wages match their level better.

As you get to higher levels, you'll find that a 20 Talent driver from the Youth Academy at a wage of 300k per race is a massive discount compared to the 1m+ per race of level 14+ drivers bought from the transfers. The Youth Academy is usually used "late game" as you can get 20 Talent drivers at higher YA levels.
This is because Youth Drivers usually start at levels 4-5 which is around 290k-320k-ish range. Wages are only determined by the driver's level, and a bit by how high their stats are for their level.
