Rules for Season 34

The 80% rule.

This applies to everyone who was in the league for the previous season, including those promoted from Pro to Elite, except those who are new joiners in their first or second season in Elite.

At the start of the season:

< = 80% car development = no penalty

> 80% but <=87% = 6 race penalty

> 87% but <=94% = 12 race penalty

> 94% = the whole season

The rule for people joining part way through the season in Rookie & Pro

This is an extension of the 80% rule using a sliding scale of 2% per race.

For example, someone joins after Bahrain, which is 4 races into the season, the threshold increases by 4 times the 2%.

< =88% = no penalty

> 88% but <=95% = 6 race penalty

> 95% = 12 race penalty or until the end of the season, whichever is soonest.

The rule for new joiners in their first or second season in Elite

This is a 70% threshold & applies for the season they join, with a 2% sliding scale & for the start of the following season.

If someone joins Elite before the start of the season or at the start of their 2nd season:

< =70% = no penalty

> 70% but <=80% = 6 race penalty

> 80% but <= 90% = 12 race penalty

> 90% = the whole season

For example someone joins after Monaco, which is the 6th race of the season, so the threshold is 70% + 6 times the 2% = 82%. So:

< =82% no penalty

> 82% but <=92% = 6 race penalty

> 92% = 12 race penalty or until the end of the season, whichever is soonest.

The Penalty

The team manager will be required to change 2 of their suppliers away from the optimal for the duration of the penalty.

The optimal supplers are: Murk engines, Beep fuel & Bridgerock tyres. The team manager is free to choose which 2 of those to change & is also free to choose which other suppliers to use.

All of the figures will be the average of the 7 parts for the car.

If any part of this is not clear. please direct your questions to me.

1. If you are going to be absent for 7 days or more, please let me know or you may be removed for inactivity.
2. We expect you to show respect to your fellow managers.
3. You may only have 1 team per tier
4. In the event of an interruption to the service, prior to or during the race the 15 minute rule will apply. This means that if the service is restored within 15 minutes the race will continue & if not the race will be reset & postponed until the following day.
5. You are not expected to attend any of the races but we do expect you to be racing.
6. You are not allowed to rotate your teams through the same tier.

British Racing League - Elite Tier - Season 33 Review

We turned back the clock this season. Two teams who have been in the league for a long time joined in battle like they used to all the way back in season 7. At one time these managers were ranked 1 & 2 in the world & whilst they haven't quite reached those dizzying heights recently, they have both been ranked in the top 20 ever since.

Vandoorne for Josh Brain's Brain GP (BGP), led almost every lap in Australia & was followed home by his team mate Moustaoui in an emphatic opening to the season. Moustaoui might have had everyone worried when he took victory at the next round, but we have seen in recent seasons that the opening 2 races can give a somewhat false view of performance. This isn't to say that Josh went poorly in the rest of the season, he finished 4th, but he would not dominate as these 2 rounds might have suggested.

China saw an all EJ Technical Motorsport, (EJTM) front row& Andrew Hurn's Menarquez led from lights to flag. His team mate Panis was on pole in Bahrain, but it was Phil Kipperman's Nissan Sentra Special Edition GP (NSSE) who took a superb 1,2 Rissanen coming from 14th on the grid to be 2nd. Walker for Lewis Goodway's, Follow me on twitter, (FMOT), led every lap in Spain & made it look easy. Monaco doesn't always produce the best racing, but on this occasion we were treated to a thriller, between Reidj Free's Vesely (Scuderia at work) & T Weber for Ignatius Corleone's Vongola Primo, (VP). After their final stops Vesely was just ahead , but Weber was right behind & kept the pressure on until 3 laps from the end when he found a way passed. Vesely proceeded to follow even closer, but Weber converted his pole even though they were separated by just 0.7 at the line. The classification after 6 races:

Drivers: Panis (EJTM) 65, Rissanen (NSSE) 63, Moustaoui (BGP) 57, Menarquez (EJTM) 57, T Weber (VP) 56, Meyer (SAW) 49.
Teams: EJTM 122, NSSE 110, BGP 96, SAW 85, VP 70, FMOT 62.

Menarquez took the next in Turkey from 3rd on the grid & with his team mate finishing 3rd it was starting to look as though EJTM were going to be contenders this season. GB saw a maiden victory for Tjerk Korvings DCR, Ceballos coming from 9th on the grid. In Germany SAW dominated taking a 1,2 finish with Vesely ahead. This was the drive of the season for me, coming from 14th on the grid to win. EJTM were out of the points though & suddenly the battle lines were drawn, the gap back to SAW just 6 points. Panis held onto his lead in the drivers title by winning in Hungary, Vesely was 2nd though keeping the pressure on.

DCR were showing some good form as the season progressed & they took a superb 1,2 in Spain (Europe). It was the turn of Bruno Sousa Ferreira's Ferreira Racing (FR) to finish 1,2 in Belgium with Williams coming from 11th to be 2nd. The classification after round 12:

Drivers: Vesely (SAW) 130, Panis (RJTM) 121, Menarquez (EJTM) 108, Meyer (SAW) 99, Moustaoui (BGP) 75, Ruiz (DCR) 73, Rissanen (NSSE) 71, Garcia (NSSE) 67, Oliveria (FR) 66.
Teams: EJTM 229, SAW 229, NSSE 138, BGP 136, DCR 128, FR 106, FMOT 89, VP 70.

Italy was high drama. The EJTM pair were off the pace & managed only 9th & 11th. There was an intense battle for 2nd , but in an astonishing surprise Reidj's pair were a lap light of fuel. Meyer had been running at the front & looked nailed on for the top step. But despite pitting he still managed to be ahead of both EJTM cars finishing 8th. Vesely was less fortunate, his stop taking him out of the points. This would have given Reidj a healthy lead in the championship, instead he was left ruing his mistake. The protagonists fighting for 2nd were now even more charged for the final lap. Schneider for Chris Louth's King Power (KP) was just behind DCR's Ruiz & they went at it over the remaining 4 miles. It generated what I think is the closest finish we have seen in this league. Schneider got the better of Ruiz in the end, but there was just one hundredth separating them at the line. A sensational finish.

Reidj had longer to consider his error as Singapore brought EJTM the season's 7th 1,2 finish & they led by 16 points. Japan went much better though as they finished 1st & 3rd. EJTM could only manage 6th & 7th giving the lead back to SAW by 10 points. In Brazil, Meyer converted pole position, but Menarquez was right behind. & so it went to final round in Abu Dhabi.

Reidj entered the race with a 19 point advantage, but the spectre of Monza still loomed over him; was that mistake going to cost him title he so deeply craved? Sadly for me, it would not. Despite both SAW cars qualifying behind the EJTM pair, Reidj managed the strategy much better & overtook both to cast asunder the mantle of best player not to have a won a Teams Championship in Elite & Vesely took the drivers title too I was left wondering how a 61 point advantage after Turkey did not result in the title. The final classification:

Drivers: Vesely (SAW) 177, Meyer (SAW) 170, Panis (EJTM) 156, Menarquez (EJTM) 154, Ruiz (DCR) 111, Moustaoui (BGP) 99, Garcia (NSSE) 97, Ceballos (DCR) 96, Vandoorne (BGP) 95.
Teams: SAW 347, EJTM 310, DCR 207, BGP 194, NSSE 170, KP 129, FR 125.

I spoke with Reidj about his season,
“For sure it was a wonderful feeling. I had a close fight with you during the entire season and I wasn't sure who was going to win. Unfortunately, you missed a couple of races which helped my fortune. It really reminded me of the fights we had for so many seasons where I was doing my best to catch up to you. For sure, I learnt a lot from my mistakes the previous season too and I was able to attend all the races which for me was the biggest improvement. For sure I was lucky with qualifying at the end of the season which made a big difference. Winning one championship is nice, but I would rather enjoy being able to do it on a regular basis, i.e. like a certain Edwin Smith did for so many seasons in a row.”
Thank you Reidj

I have also chosen to give Reidj our most coveted prize for special achievement. This championship has been a long time coming, but I hope it makes it even more enjoyable. In awarding you Le Prix de Lyon I hope that this can finally lay to bed any nature of you being 'just a filler'.

I spoke to myself about my season,
“For sure all credit to Reidj. He deserves a teams title after coming close so often. For sure Panis turned out to be the weak link for me though. He went well in the first half of the season & then was nowhere. For sure it's good to be challenging at the front, let's hope I can do it again soon. Congratulations Reidj”. Thank me me.

For season 34,we welcome back Jason Lee, who is already a 3 time champion in this league & Yuri Kasdorp who was champion in season 31. I say welcomed....actually they almost always run at the front. Will they be the ones to beat? Chris Louth is expected to go well & he is a past champion too. Josh Brain was 2nd in season 31 & Tjerk Korving has just finished 3rd; so there are plenty of possible contenders.

All I can be sure of as usual, is that there will be some great racing.
