Just want to update that everything seems to be working for me still (other then choppiness that doesn\'t happen with windows machines). I am using Java SE 6 Update 30. You can\'t get this from the package that I originally posted about above, you need to manually install it. To do so I used this method:
http://www.webupd8.org/2011/09/how-to-install-oracle-java-7-jdk-in.html but got the actual file here:
http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp. The script that the webupd8 link provides seems to properly point the machine in the right direction after having other versions of java installed previously. (The instructions at the Java website didn\'t work for me).
