Davies doesn't care about money, he just wants to race ;) - However, you'd be surprised at the wage increase since the last time I hired him. It's around a 30% increase, which is pretty big :P

I'd just like to add to that, that in 2010, the highest paid driver in F1 was Fernando Alonso at £24m. Which based on the amount of races comes to £1.26m per race, which is about the same as Davies gets per race.

Curious on this - he's a level 14 driver and you were able to offer him a contract?  And you're level 10 right?
So how come when I try to offer a contract to an x level driver who's out of contract it says I can't, and that I must be at the same level as the aforementioned driver to offer them a contract...?

What's up with that?

EDIT: Direct quote is:
Approaching [driver name] requires level [x].

It's because I was the last person to hire that driver, and I was the one who trained him to level 14, therefore I am able to re-hire him. I wouldn't be able to hire anyone else's high-leveled drivers.

I guess that explains it.

I do think it's strange that there's an exception for the last person to sign them.  Once they aren't your driver any more, shouldn't they behave the same as anyone else who isn't your driver?

If the last team the driver raced for was your team, then you can re-sign them, even if they are above your level. Because the implication is that you trained them up to that level, and then lost them.

It was implemented a long time ago as a way to get drivers back in case you forget to renew the contract.

Although it was in another post

Thanks for posting the reasoning and evidence.  Good to know, and fair enough.  :)

$24m, really?

What happened to driver wages. Didn't Nigel Mansell used to get up to $6m euro per race? It's in this book I have at home about him that during the 1991 season (or 1992, I can't remember) he was at one stage getting up to $6m per race.

£24m is over a whole year, not per race :P

He is stating at how they have dropped. $6m is just under 5 times more than $1.26m
