"Jack
When this happens, does your driver mistake value correlate with the fluctuation in lap times? Especially at lower levels they are going to be prone to a high margin of error.

In my case, it doesn't always. Often, the setup will be better in terms of Feels good/change by 1 or 2 versus by a little, but the lap time will be slower and the mistake value won't account for all the time loss. My driver tends to lose between 0.4 and 0.7 each run.

He also always runs his best lap in qualifying. Whatever his quickest practice lap is, he'll beat it in qualifying every time, sometimes by as much as a whole second. One recent race, his best practice lap was 1:31.4 (actual time), but then he ran a 1:30.6 in qualifying.

Agree with the other guys. My drivers, when the practice times have been available, have run slower when everything feels good, even with the mistake margin counted in. It's hard to compare the two considering no two drivers are ever going to be the same (IE run a race with one driver having the 'quickest' setup even though it 'didn't feel good', and the other using the 'good feeling' set up even though it's slower).

X 3 actually. I've often discussed this with friends aswell. First test run is usually faster than the "all feels good" run even taking into account the driver error :S

by the way I'd like to know what amount of fuel is used in practice and qualifying, maybe that can explain the quali times being faster than practice laps

There are actually two issues that will make qualifying faster than practice laps.  Firstly, drivers are allowed to use DRS for qualifying, but they are not using it for practice laps.  Also, you're right, the fuel isn't necessarily the same.  Practices use the amount specified for your first stint while qualifying always uses 10 litres.

Several of the setup options are a tradeoff between speed and reliability/endurance (of the driver and/or the car).  The driver tries to find a balance rather than going all out on speed.  I think one way that this should be improved though is that the driver should be making more mistakes when the setup is too far outside his/her preferences.

3.5 Qualifying

Qualifying runs automatically 20 minutes prior to a race

You can not manage your cars during qualifying

The chosen tyre compound for stint 1 will be used for qualifying

Qualifying is conducted on low fuel with tyres at optimal temperatures

DRS and KERS are not permitted for use on qualifying laps

Each driver gets one qualifying lap on a clear circuit
Nope, DRS usage isn't causing difference in lap times.

I think we should trust what Andrew said 1 day ago rather than what the rules say as they may have not been updated for a long time

DRS is currently allowed during qualifying (as far as the system is concerned).  That will be fixed to coincide with the rules again.  I'll update this thread when it is done.  Sorry about the confusion.

There's quite a lot of us not getting any driver feedback on the set up screen.
I don't care about the practice lap times, but feedback is obviously essential.

Should be fixed now.

Practice lap times are disabled for now but should be re-enabled soon.

Hi Developers,

Do you have any update on the practice lap times at all? It's been nearly 3 months now since the last reply about this from yourselves or will this be fixed with the new version that you're working on?

Cheers!

There are unfortunately still some load issues with the simulator. When this is resolved the practice lap times will be enabled.

Nothing is as permanent as something temporariliy. And vice versa.

I would imagine that it's being held back until the next release of the design system.. If it was causing issues before without the new updates. Then no point releasing it just yet.
