Introducing a degree of randomness might make the races more interesting for those new to the game and some casual managers who don't necessarily attend the race. BUT...
Experienced managers who regularly win championships and are high in the HOF rankings achieve this by dedication and hard work. They have often been playing the game for a long time, they will collect and analyse data, optimise car development and driver training, apply the best strategies to suit prevailing conditions and almost always attend races to manage their cars and adjust strategy to suit changing weather. I for one would not welcome my cars randomly crashing or breaking down totally outside of my control.
Maybe if DNFs are ever introduced it should be an option for the league host to enable/disable so that managers have a choice.
We already have an element of randomness with non-attending managers (Auto-KERS) who leave their cars on the default setup. You'd be surprised what a big influence these cars can have on the outcome of a race.

Tyres blowing up when they are running hot for too many laps could bring the safety car out.

Can just imagine the tyre temp flashing to warn you and then 4 laps later bang!

Agreed James, I don't have a problem with the car failing because of something I did wrong. Where I have a problem is random failures. I only race once per day and to have that race ruined because of something over which I have no control would be bad news. We have enough randomness with weather and non attending backmarkers without introducing another uncontrollable element.
Funnily enough about two years ago when I was new to the game and struggling to compete with experienced managers I can remember supporting the concept of random failures. It seems now that I am one of the experienced guys I have changed my tune ;-)

so far studies have shown SS can run for 4-5 laps before they reach top temp using the wrong push level. So a 4 lap period of grace before failing should be safe enough allowing you to do 8-9 laps all be it below optimum performance as they are too hot. Of course with changes to tyres, we might even see them going 10-11 laps, if the guys where to build them with a slightly harder version of soft rubber, bringing them ever so slightly down in pace as a result of this.
A few eyebrows being raised I see in the crowd Lets face it the current tyre wear levels are slightly bizarre.
Hard tyres can run for up to 35 laps without any TE if managed correctly the tyre temps.
Medium tyres 28 laps
Soft tyres 21 laps
So why not Supersofts if managed correctly 14 laps? Not talking about Monaco SS 21 laps lol

I don't like completely random crashes or failures as well, if you win or loose due to random events it all quickly feels like it's just a matter of dice throws. But perhaps it could be a sort of controled randomness, like gambling if you choose to do so and giving Reliability and maybe Cooling a bit more value in the process.

Perhaps any design point more in Acceleration, Braking, Downforce, Handling and Tyre Economy than you've got in Reliability gives a 1% chance of that part failing in race. Same could be done (perhaps additionally) with Cooling for Acceleration but with air temperature playing into it, like equal needed for 20°C and one point more/less for each degree more/less.

It would be the decision of the manager if they go 1960/70s Lotus, make it waterproof or some compromise in between.

See we can bring Safety Cars for those teams who suffer failures during the race because they didn't fix their parts. This can make race more interesting.

Failures for only those cars who didn't fix their parts say like the condition of car parts is around 40-60%, they suffer failures during the race.

It's down to luck you either get DRS or you don't from the back markers. If you are sitting calculating their pace and when they are due to pit to set yous up perfectly to get a toe from them than I suggest you need to get out more. It's only a game

If we had better control over the tyre temps, then braking stat might help avoid driver lockups, Locking up would increase tyre temps and shave off some tyre life, it may even cause front wing damage to your car or another persons car.
If there we had screen with car parts in the race viewer cars could gather up some collective damage over the duration of the races forcing us to pit for repairs or push on and hope it doesn't break.

The safety car bring the game to a new higher level. In the reality they have to choose very fast too. And there are some driver which have luck cause they are in sector 3 and are near to the box and the unlucky driver which are in sector 1. It would be nice... on the other hand u would reward the player which follow the race
