I really would like to have those old iGP settings back. That's what I was expecting joining this game and this extremly simplified setup of now came as quite a disappointment.

Teddy
Kevin
Teddy, I imagine in our league, elite tier, almost all of the cars (with attending managers) go into turn 1 of the first lap at PL5 no matter what tyres they're running. They're all very close together so chances are there would be carnage and half the cars would be out of the race. I'd rather not have that happen despite the realism.

BUT if you know the carnage could happen, you will think twice before pushing level 5, specially at the start of the race...

In your example even PL3 would lead to a crash in the first corner. So it's either going to risk it and hope no 4 cars are near enough or be happy loosing positions. Especially on hard. Then those calculateable rules give way for tactics like if the better car of the biggest competition is closing in from behind then putting PL 5, even though it cooks the tyres (making the car even slower). The other manager has then those really nice choices of going down with push and then being held up or wasting even more KERS to overtake or try to overtake with high push and crash both cars. Despite, even those slim chances using push to regularly overtake a slower car would be gone because the other one would just have to rise, or already running due to harder or worn tyres, his push as well to result in a crash.

What next, low push, which in reality is often more dangerous due to loss of concentration, after relaxing the mental tension of staying right on the edge especially later in a race, resulting in crashes as well? Those things just would just render the PL feature useless and with it any choice of what tyre to use.

It wouldn't stop me using PL5.

But in real life my name is Sebastian Vettel, I only do PL5 into the first corner no matter what the consequences! ;-)

Interestingly, Seb "Blue Flags and Ping Pong and Bumper Cars" Vet's idol, the Shumi, used to have PL1 off the start for most his career. And yeah if we go by all this hypothesis regarding push levels off the start PL1 could lead to crashes as well.

[Explanation: Michael Schumacher, for all his wow pace, did not actually have the best reflexes and for most of his career was notorious for his bad starts causing him to lose positions off the line. It also got him into some start line/first corner accidents. 2011 was an exception, where The Michael's wow pace was long gone but for some reason he got the best starts off the line that season...]

Hello Everyone, i can agree with some or much that everyone has said here. It would be very interesting to manage more factors in order to have a better or bad setup for car, still a single part and engine its quite simple to organize and manage, to avoid problems or lack of them.

Also im in favor to introduce a crash algorithm that causes DNF, partial damage to chasis, punctures, pit stop to change a front wing or a lose in lap time (as an example of a light wall hit or oversteering). CAUSING: In order of the level of the crash appearance of Safety Car for 1 or 2 laps even 3 laps.
If the devs can put all the followings factors in a blender we can have a very interesting incident system.
-Experience of the pilot
-Experiencie of TD
-Reliability
-Age of pilot (younger pilot thave a bravery attitude)
-Talent
-Average of Focus, Composture of the pilot in front and pilot behind
-And of course the PL (But i will lower the effect in the first 2 laps, and going increaseasing the next 3-5 laps of the race)

That could make a very interesting game to play smart.

What do you think about it?

Hi Oz, imagine this scenario...
It's the final race of the season, you only need both cars to finish in the points to take the team championship, the one you've been striving to win for the last six months. You understand the crash algorithm so you are running low PL, you have experienced drivers and staff, you've developed car reliability, you've replaced parts and engines in fact you've done everything possible to remove any risk of a crash.
Unfortunately in your race are a couple of Managers who have no hope of winning the championship, they may not even be able to avoid relegation, they have nothing to lose so adopt a high risk strategy.
Their strategy results in a major crash which takes one of your cars out of the race, the safety car is deployed for three laps and your other car which had a healthy five second lead is now within DRS range of second place. As a result the championship which you've worked so hard to win is handed to a rival.
Do you still think a crash algorithm is a good idea?

Hi Kevin!

Thx for answer, first of all in my only opinion. I would be mad of course, the same way any other pilot/team in F1 sees their hopes of championship falls for a bottom line pilot mistake. How many F1 races ended in yellow flag or how many P1 and P2 crashes ended deciding championships, one i can remember is senna/prost. The point its to make difficult to oversee a result (without randomize). And you can prepare at 100% and still sh*t happens...

Hi Oz,

That's all well and good for real F1 teams and drivers to go through that. In reality, humans make mistakes, and that causes accidents, retirements (either through poor driving, or faulty parts).

In a game, retirements tend to mean that people stop playing the game. When it comes to player retention, nothing costs a racing game players faster than crashes/retirements they could do nothing to avoid.

I am firmly in the no crashes or retirements camp.

Hi Ryan!

That´s a good point, player retention could be affected by a crash system, but still this is a simulator (as far i know). If we prefer to maintain a game where you can finish each race, good for me, i think this game its pretty good the way it is. Still can improve some aspect as more parts, engines, crash system. Some would be implemented, others don't, and can cause that players go away if they want a "easy" racing game, other racing players would love to be as close as real races.

Different point of views and playing modes.
Thanks for everyone opinion :)

Copypaste from other thread:
I don't consider myself a person with great sportsmanship, but I would never feel good if I won a championship or a race thanks to a rival crash. And vice versa, it would be very frustrating to lose a championship by a crash. Not to mention that someone could cause an accident on purpose.
And I don't see this as a F1 simulator or far away.

The crash algorithm can affect only whoever is pushing.

If two cars are together and one is pushing the other does't, in event of crash only the pushing car is affected (RNG wing broken or retire).
If both are pushing then the chance of crash is increased and also both will be affected in the event of crash.
If there are 3 cars pushing together then the chance of crash will be even bigger and all 3 will be affected.
If 2 cars pushing and third car is not pushing in crash event the two pushing cars take damage and the third is not affected.

Thanks for your opinions,

If you ever follow racing IRL, that´s the way it is. As i said before, different playing modes. As far i know this is one of the "best online simulators" (If you know another better with app, let me know). But still far away to be all on board. If you want maybe an easy mode (no crash system, 1 part/engine to configure, limited functions) just for fun great!, and other sim mode for example with more realistic options to challenge core players. I don´t know its just an opinion.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOHZWpMgrig This is a simulator.

Each person has his threshold for what he considers a simulator, but if the graphics are 2D, the cars are crossed, the track is not heated, the track has no gradient, the road has no real bumps, the cars can not get out of track, tires don't get dirty, there are no mechanical faults, there is no rebufo, lap times do not correspond to reality, the setups only take into account suspension, height and aileron and a very loooong etcetera, then it is not a simulator sorry to disappoint you.
