Move to In-House weather system?

Do you want randomly generated fictional weather or real-world weather conditions?

37.1% (220)
Fictional weather
55.48% (329)
Real-world weather (if it's made more reliable)
7.42% (44)
I'm happy either way

We have taken the temporary measure to freeze weather conditions in-game until further notice. We want to improve the system and may move to in-house weather rather than continuing with the augmented-reality system. It has caused a few too many complications impacting on the gameplay experience. E.g. mixed practice laps conditions, choosing a strategy in races based on inaccurate weather information.

Please vote on which system you would prefer us to use. Here are the benefits of each to inform your vote:

Ficitonal weather
We can control this better, provide 100% accurate forecasts for any period of time leading up to a race (although we don't have to make them accurate, we can randomise them too!). With such control, we can also control the level of variety in the weather.

Real-world weather
Obviously, we can't control this, so forecasts will only be as reliable as real-world ones, but we can improve the way it is "syncing" across the service. This seems to be the main problem right now. As things are going "out of sync", parts of the system are reporting one set of conditions while others are showing/simulating others. This is the main reason we have frozen it temporarily.

There is also the added problem that weather in the real world is naturally seasonal, reducing variety in strategies in certain seasons. E.g. some players will join in summer and say "hards are so overpowered!" only for other players to join in winter and say "super softs are overpowered!". This happens because the tyres are suited the conditions and temperatures at that time of year.

If the execution can be improved, it does have a great novelty factor though. It's just kind of cool to have real-world weather reflected on the circuits.

Ficitonal weather in control of League host

in a way of variety 3 options for temperatures
Extreme (will have many top high & top low)
Normal
Soft (will have mid temperatures to suit all tires)
the same 3 option for rain
Extreme (will have many rainy conditions with 5.0mm water also)
Normal
Soft (will have few rainy conditions with max of 3.1mm water means no Wet tires will needed)

Wouldn't that make the host too powerfull?

What is the problem with that?
I mean will not know the exact conditions will just specify the variety
As there are the polls that all players of League can vote how they want the conditions of next season if they want to change every season that is or whenever they want;)

In my personal opinion keep it as real world weather just improve how it syncs with game and make it more stable this way no one had control over it and its fair for all.

I have that way of thinking yes and i 've posted the simple way of my thought ;) hahaha

I say fictional  but representative to what that race could have weather wise when that race is in a real season of f1. I know not all tracks are not on f1 calendar but they have been at some point in history.

Random fictional weather seems the way to go

Yes I think fictional weather is better because  now the Real-world weather does not work. Sometimes on the game it does not rain while in real time it rains on the track

Real weather but more reliable. Show forecasts by the hour like say on the BBC - showing the forecast for 3 or 4 days after your race is utterly worthless. Show the forecast for your race time and not for right now, also useless.

But as long as the race weather is random - real weather or fictional weather - is the most important thing. It encourages managers to be online for their race and that surely should be the main concern, having engaged active players.

Mais comment peut couloir une météo fictive quand on veut que le jeu soit le plus réaliste possible celà n'a pas de sens !! (nouveaux circuits, design 2018, nouveaux pneus etc ...

Je vote pour des conditions climatiques réelles

I say fictional but maybe base the probabilities on past weather conditions

I voted for Real-World weather, but now I regret it and want to vote Fictional weather.
Jack, could you subtract 1 from the Real-World votes and add 1 to the Fictional weather votes when you are tallying them?

I voted for fictional weather, but probably in same races we will never see rain again.

I have to say, I am very strongly in support of the current 'Real World Weather' over 'Fictional Weather', as over time, 'Fictional Weather' will likely to be exploited, and become predictable, as players will eventually work out at which laps, and at which circuits, the weather will likely change.

Fictional weather, however realistic it is programmed, will also never feel the same as 'Real World Weather' I love the fact we can race on F1 circuits around the world, with real time conditions, and I fear this reality will be somewhat lost with 'Fictional Weather'

Real time conditions also make me feel a bit like a Ron Dennis or Ross Brawn during the Hakkinen/Schumacher era, analysing weather reports and their probabilities! Fictional weather would take all this away, and it would effectively be a pure guessing game :/

And also those crazy, but very memorable Wet-Dry-Wet races! I doubt the realism in those hectic races can be programmed :/

I've long been a proponent for moving the weather system to a fictional one, rather than 'realistic'. I don't really consider it to be authentic for players in North America racing on tracks when they are at their coolest temperatures(excluding Malaysia, Singapore, the Middle East).

It'd be much more inclusive to have fictional weather. It'll allow for much more fine-tuning and control on how to randomize the weather and match that of each track's typical weather conditions.

Some of the concerns regarding players who are voting for realistic weather are a bit unfounded in my opinion. By being able to manage the weather in-house it can be extremely modular I feel. If a particular track's weather becomes too predictable or unexciting it can be adjusted to be more random as needed.

Another upside is it could allow us to bring back the weather station to predict future weather, something that used to be a part of the old iGP.

Overall, I think there are many more benefits to moving to a fictional weather system than to not.
