After my recent blog, detailing changes to advanced strategy options, a few managers have been confused about what the changes mean. The quote from the blog reads as follows:

blog
The first stage, released tonight, improves AI behaviours and address bugs with them not respecting adavanced strategy. They will also prevent advanced strategy from "hijacking" the strategy during a race while the manager is attending. Once you are in the race viewer, you will be solely responsible for strategy, regardless of what you have set on advanced strategy.

Some managers took this to mean that there would never be any advanced strategy options applied prior to the start of the race. To clarify, it still applies advanced strategy on the starting tyre, even if you attend the race. However, if you manage the race live from any point, it will no longer apply advanced strategy automations from the point at which you join.

The next downloadable app update will introduce the ability to change the starting tyre before the start of the race. This option will be available if the weather suddenly changes from wet to dry or vice versa between qualifying and the race. This is what was referred to as the 'second stage' in the blog, and is yet to be released.

By implementing it this way:

  • Attending the race will give you full manual control of strategy.

  • Not attending  the race will mean the strategy is automated by 'advanced strategy' settings.

  • Attending part-way through the race will be automated by advanced strategy settings until you join, then it will be manual.

Does this mean if we go on live and leave we wont have a strategy after we have left for the rest of the race.

Hi Jack, when you say "This option will be available if the weather suddenly changes from wet to dry or vice versa between qualifying and the race" do you mean that the option will be available only in that situation or also in case of changing wheather in wet conditions? F.e.: pre-quali and quali with 3.2 mm and race starting conditions with 2.8 mm and vice versa? Or this will be managed only with the advanced strategy?

A valid question I was going to ask myself. What happens if you have to leave a live race? Will the AI return to advanced strategy setup?

That was my first thought too.

If that's the case, then we could have more DNF's due to lack of fuel.

It only means that advanced strategy changes (when the weather goes from wet to dry or vice versa) will not be applied after you have joined.

You will still have a strategy if you leave - the regular strategy that you have selected manually for the remainder of the race. You can set future stints on the strategy tab by navigating between stints with the left and right arrows.

Also, the car will not run out of fuel. When the end of the regular stints is reached, it repeats the last stint until the end of the race. E.g. if the last stint specified in regular strategy was 10 laps with Medium tyres, it will just keep doing 10 laps with Medium tyres until the end.

The last race in Monaco was wet 3.4mm i joined the race after about 10 laps and drivers were on wets,

I had to leave about half way through the race, and when i returned with about 15 laps remaining, my drivers had changed to SS, even though it was still wet 3.4mm as a result my drivers lost a whole lap, went from being 47s behind leader to 2m30s behind when i was able to force them to pit for wets.

Basically if it's a wet race, unless you set the tyre strategy to explicitly use wets (not just in the advanced options) then either don't attend the race or make sure you're actively online for the whole race.

Another manager in the same race, that I know wasn't online at all during the race had used Wet's the whole race.

I suggest making such a system. It is necessary to expand the page with the strategy settings in order to be able to choose tires for qualification. Qualification of the race must be carried out 1 hour before the start of the race. Top 10-15 pilots will not be allowed to change tires. the rest will be able to change the strategy.
I apologize for the grammatical mistakes. I wrote it through google translator

Hello, I set up Wets on the setup screen but in the race, I qualified and am starting on Inters? German GP on the current league I'm running.

Hi Boomer
What was your advanced strategy settings? In another thread Gert Rose says that these override main strategy in the event of rain during qualifying.

E.g. You notice shortly before lockdown that it is raining and water depth is 3.5mm. Practice laps confirm Full Wets are faster so you set your first stint in the main strategy to Full Wets. You don't bother with Advanced Strategy because you will attend the race and manually manage the strategy.
This is what is tripping people up, the advanced strategy says Inters at 0mm (default) and for qualifying the game says... OK, it's raining, the water level is above 0mm so it overrides your stint 1 tyre choice and fits Inters.

Also see here... Wet weather woes

Thanks for the explanation, Kevin.

So to prevent the game putting me on Inters when I don't want to, and I want to stay on Wets, should I put Wets on the Advanced strategy? Or do I set the mm a certain way. Let's say it's 3.8mm and I want to go on Wets, what should I do? Thanks.

Oooh, the master asking for advice LOL.

AFAIK with the current A.S. logic if you want to absolutely force your cars to qualify and start the race on Wets regardless of weather conditions you would set stint 1 to Wets and A.S. to Wets at 0mm. Then just cross your fingers and pray that the rain doesn't stop for qualifying.

Possibly a better approach if it is raining just before lockdown would be to set Inters for stint 1 and A.S. for Wets at 3mm. So you're going to qualify and start the race on Inters if the water level is below 3mm and Wets if above 3mm. As a belt and braces exercise I would also set "Use Inters if it stops raining for 0 laps". Disclaimer... This is how I think it works, if the Devs or other Mods know otherwise please correct this advice.

According to Jack's original post
The next downloadable app update will introduce the ability to change the starting tyre before the start of the race. This option will be available if the weather suddenly changes from wet to dry or vice versa between qualifying and the race. This is what was referred to as the 'second stage' in the blog, and is yet to be released.

This will likely change the advice but we won't know fully until the update is released.

Can we get a more granular advance strategy? When to use dry, inters & wets.

If above x and if above y. Just ensures a good starting tyre if set right.

Differing fuel strategy too potentially.

We are changing how advanced strategy works from now in response to all the feedback. If you don't select anything on advanced strategy, it won't be used. There will be a toggle switch provided in the UI to turn advanced strategy "On" or "Off".

Additionally, we continue work on the update which will introduce the option to change tyres before the start of a race.

Isn't there any default Advanced Strategy any more (Intermediate (0mm) and mediums (0 laps)) ?

That means for now one a car that miss setup will start on dry tyres  :(

Although I don't like this update, I'd like to Thank you anyway.

We were discussing this internally earlier, and I was suggesting having advanced strategy for teams that don't do anything on strategy (don't even save it) for this reason. I feel it should apply the default unless the manager hits "save" with it set to "off". It seems we are in agreement here, so that will likely change.

I'm not sure that having the advanced strategy off by default is a good thing. It can mean that in a wet race that drivers could be on dry tyres the whole race.
