That is good news.. Even though I have very very little issues with 7 on the 2D at the worst of times..
We have a race tonight Jack.. At 9pm.. I am using Firefox and I know 1 is on IE and 2 are on Lynux.. So it might be an idea to see how our race goes with the 2 feaks on Lynux. lolol.
Ohhh and.. Am I ok to carry on with 7? I don't want to have issues pre-race.. So if I could get it after the race and just jump in to spectate mode to test tomorrow.. That would be great.
Java 7 is still fully supported, we just introduced a fix to the freezing issue in Java 8. :)
I've been using Chrome x64 + Java 8 x64 today and finding it runs a lot better than Java 7 x86 did for me before. E.g. there is no lag when using high quality rendering, at least on my PC.
OooOooO SCHAAAAWEEEEET.. That is the only main issue that I have with the 2D.. The rendering lags/stutters as soon as I tick it.. It's never been an issue per say.. Nice that I can use it now.. Thanks :)

Holly Connection Speed Batman..
Seriously.. Wow. That is a HUGE change in connection time.. Less than 10 seconds from click to seeing the track.
(Updating as race happens.)
Edit 1.. The HQ Rendering is still lagging for me :(
Edit 2.. It is stuttering from lap 2.
Edit 3. It cleared after re-booting the 2D but it took a while to get back in..

The Java 8 anti-freeze patch has now been applied to the free viewer as well.
yesterdays race was lagging for me, a lot.
I've reloaded the 2D and it was still just as laggy. Seriously I've never had it this bad without the server crashing a couple minutes later or it being solved with a refresh :(

Typically that kind of lag is nothing to do with the viewer, it's usually to do with the service or pings. However, those should be improved now too as we quietly doubled the capacity of the service with all these updates (didn't mention that in the blogs).
I'll drop by your race tonight and we can see if it's happening again or if it was a one-off.
In my case, with Java 8, I could never make a little move during the race or it would block and I had to refresh! NOW, it's super fast, I can zoom, pull the full detail times chart and everything works fine!!!! Well, at least until now :P

Race is tomorrow only 3 a week now. I think someone else had the same thing. My internet speed is 180mb down 20 up and the server won't be too far from the Netherlands I think. Hopefully it's just a one off :D

And I just logged in to spectate. :D See you tomorrow. Hopefully it was a one off as you say.
It worked excellently for me last race (Australia) but during my current race (Malaysia) the 2D viewer is still freezing when I move things around. On the plus side I can put full time details on now without it freezing. Thanks for the improvement :)

That doesn't sound right. Could you please put a Java Console Log on a site like pastebin.com next time this happens and post it here? Then we can say why that is happening. I have a suspicion you may be using a cached version of the viewer, though. Try clearing your Java cache and running it again and let me know if that resolves it.
Having problems with Java 8 today. Loads up but then as soon as I touch anything it freezes.
Edit: Worth noting that if i dont touch any of the settings or pit info it will allow me to change push level without freezing. But cant pull up chat box either
Jack,
Following your report here that the Java 8 freeze issue was fixed I swapped to Java 8 to spectate a race.
Loading was great, very quick.
Full screen, brilliant.
Into settings for full race times, screen freezes.
Restart viewer
Settings, load full race details, great
Expand full screen, great
Choose driver to watch, freeze.
Seems I'm not the only one with issues, will go back to Java 7
