Random extra pitstops are taking place for no reason.

I asked around on the general forums, and I think counts as a bug.

At times, from what I gather usually at the end of the race, for whatever reason the game decideds to add an extra pitstop. These occur without a change in weather, when tires are in fine condition, and there is enough fuel left to get to the end. In my case, the game filled my car with the same amount of fuel I had set for my previous stints. Mine occured at Hungary, but others have had this on other tracks. I was running P6 at the time, was on soft tires, and had enough fuel to go the distance.

Hope this helps.

From what I can see from the results of people who have complained about this issue, there really is not enough fuel left in the tank, factoring in a small buffer as the driver does normally.  You might get the wrong impression about how much fuel your car has before the pit stop when reading the results pages (e.g.: http://igpmanager.com/play/?url=race-result/4111/26322) because the final row before the fuel levels are displayed as having been topped up do not necessarily show the actual previous fuel level, but may be the fuel level of the lap before.  This depends on the position of your garage and this is something that will be simplified in future.

Maybe the liters left are rounded to the next integer. If it says let\'s say 4 liters left and it takes 3.7 liters to complete a lap, might not be enough, because you could have in fact 3.6 liters left (rounded to 4 on-screen). Just my two cents. Andrew or Jack could confirm or infirm this.

Edit. Totally off-topic, but please Andrew and Jack, do something about the forum bug. I write volumes, hit Post Reply button and nothing happens. All my work is lost. The entries are taken randomly.

About losing forum post contents: Jack is aware of this issue and is working on it.  Until the problem is resolved, and to handle similar problems with other websites, I\'d recommend this addon for Firefox (if you use that browser): https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/lazarus-form-recovery/

I just had the same problem.

I was fighting for first place when my driver pitted on the last but one lap.

The fuel rate was 3.8 litres per lap and according to my data after the race, on that lap I had 4.4 litres left in the car.

Cost me the race.

I don\'t think that\'s enough for the driver. Andrew said in the 3rd post that you need a small buffer... Maybe 0.6 liters is not a buffer big enough for your drivers.

I ran out of fuel in the pitlane, I wonder why mechanics didn\'t come to push the car :D

It cost me the race too ;)

I always put in 2 laps more fuel than needed. I have never ran out of fuel and I have only had to pit on the final lap once because of bad advice from my staff.

I once finished a race with 0.5 litres left in the car.

Can\'t remember when that was though. But the driver did try and pit thinking about it and I stopped him.
Stupid drivers :)

Nick, I think that was Abu Dhabi. You overtook me on the penultimate lap when I was going to get my first lap.

I\'ve reduced the average margin of error that drivers factor in when making fuel decisions.  This should stop these kinds of problems from happening so often.

Caught me out too, made a bad race even worse!  What about adding the option to manually control pitstops.  Where we dictate the lap # as well as fuel and tires.  I see we already have that option with KERS

Hello Andrew,
since this problem is known, i check in 2D, if the drivers pitting at the right time. Yesterday, i recognized, that one driver wanted to pit one lap to early. Because it came out, that both drivers wanted to pit, i had to sort it out, which one hasn\'t to pit, and at the end i have been to late and i didn\'t change anything. But thanks god, only the one, who had to pit, was pitting. Did you change there something ? I am asking, because i recognized, that both drivers wanted to pit, after about 2/3 of the lap had been finished.

Nevertheless, i think that there shouldn\'t be a probability in the game, that the driver makes a wrong decision.  I think there exits enough \"probability\", that the human manger mess up his pit stop strategie.

With this I will probably attract a lot of criticism, but I\'ll say it anyway, no matter if it\'s disregarded. Andrew, you don\'t need to implement everything it\'s suggested, just to please us. Some of the stuff it\'s correct, some it\'s just to make managers\' job easier. 0.6 liters buffer (even 1 liter) is a small buffer. I mean, look at the warning fuel lights from the street cars. Most of them are flashing when there is lots of fuel left, it\'s just a warning. You can cancel this manually, if you are firmly convinced you have enough fuel. It\'s easy to forget in the lane of fire of the last laps, when you are probably fighting for position, but it just takes a few seconds. Keep the pit window open. In real F1, cars running on very low fuel, will experience massive reduction of power, if fuel doesn\'t reach the engine in continuous stream. And you don\'t want that. You can lose up to 5-6 seconds per lap that way. It\'s better to put an extra liter (how much can it drag you down ?) and be safe, than sorry. You can alternatively switch to a lower push and this will lower the fuel consumption. Just my thoughts.
