I have noticed a few times now that I am losing time compared to my competitors in the pits stops. This is a no refuelling league, so that shouldn't be the issue. And it can happen when nobody else is in the pits, therefore "blocking" isn't the issue either.

For example, in my most recent race; first pit stop I came into the pits about 0.3s behind my competitor, and by the time we left the pit lane I was out of DRS range and had to boost. That's at least 0.8s right there. The second pit window, came into the pits no more than 0.1s behind, came out at least 0.5s behind. Added up that's at least 1.2s loss with no obvious reason behind it. THat's just one race, it happens quite regularly throughout the season.

Can someone with better knowledge explain how I can lose anything from 0.4s to ~1s in the pits in a no refuelling league? In a race of fine margins you can understand how this happening can actually effect your race quite substantially.

Any ideas?

Thanks

In one of my last races I noticed that same issue. My 2 driver's had the same speed on the track and always came in to pit right after another (with one lap in between of course). I kept them running together so they could support each other with DRS. At one of the later stops the second driver suddenly  lost even a few seconds in the pit (or on the last lap before pitting / I  used the same amount of fuel). So I had to boost a lot to close up to the other pilot. One reason of course can be if a driver runs out of fuel in the pitlane or if the tyres are worn a lot and cool down you are loosing a lot of time in the last lap before pitting and you might think the loss of time happend in the pit and not on the track. But both explanations did not fit to the significant time loss I had in the race I wrote about.

My 2 drivers [...] came in to pit with one lap in between them. The second driver suddenly lost [a lot of time in the pits]. So I had to boost a lot to close up to the other pilot.

This is a common phenomena in NRF racing called an undercut, where (similarly to real F1) a car on new, fresh tyres is able to driver significantly faster than a car old worn tyres. As a result, they gain large amounts of time whole the other car continues, until they eventually pit.

I see you race in a RF enabled league, so there are a few reasons why this phenomenon may have still occured.

1) Tyre delta outweighed fuel added, especially if little fuel was added or the previous tyres were very worn
2) Changable weather- which I see struck your last race- was slowing one of the compounds more than the other
3) External factors such as one car recieving DRS played a role.

Can someone [...] explain how I can lose time in the pits (in NRF)?

This sounds like a bug unintended feature at certain tracks where cars with earlier pit boxes (who can change into newer tyres sooner) appear to driver down the pitlane at higher speeds, gaining time. I don't know of any solution to this issue.

What track was it? I think there's actually "dirty air" in the slow corners of the pit lanes. Some tracks worse than others.

This is interesting, I'll have to keep an eye on where my pit box is compared to others. I'll make a note of things for proper investigation from now on.
