Jack & devs: i know balance was a real challenge before but, i was thinking on this idea:

i remember in the first times of this new version M tyres were too fast so there were not many strats and you made a perfect change in the tyres, making H a little bit better and making softer tyres able to go longer. (well, something like that. a change in tyre performance)

we have been racing like that since there, how about changing just that tyre performance from time to time, that will make everyone work on new strats fast! every time F1 change tyre rules, the teams have to work on new strats :)

that should be a new challenge everytime you change that.
- learn again about tyres.
- change strats (at the moment there are little changes depending on cars and weather, but tyres will impact more)
- talk to others about strats, help eachother in the forums...

could be some information about the change going on or just a change for us to understand.

just hope you like it.

Suppliers should be given characteristics and give you 4 compounds to work with in making a strategy, 2 different dry tyres along with inter and wet for each track.
It's a bit of leg work but all with same tyre speed & length of stints, a short fast tyre & a long slow tyre, even though they are different compounds they are equal in every way.

Me with SS & M
You with S & H
Him with SS & S
Them with S & M
Others with M & H

Gives you the feeling of being different but your not really.

why not make it so team have to do stops using 3 tyres of there choice

Possible random maximum number of tires for each race:

Race 1:

SS max 1
S max 2
M max 3
H max 2

Race 2:

SS 3
S 1
M 0
H 3

Race 3:

SS 3
S 0
M 3
H 1

For each race the maximum avaible couantity of each type is randomly generated.
Just make sure there is always enough (and little more then enough for strategy ) tyre to finish the race :).

Another possibility is at the start of season random number of tyre types for teams for the whole season:

Season 1:

SS 20
S 15
M 17
H 25

Season 2:

SS 30
S 25
M 14
H 5

But with the per season number generation maybe will be hard to make algorithm how much of each tyre will recieve a team joining league mid season..

Probably these are much easier to implement then dynamic tyre performance for each race (wich will be vey nice but harder to implement maybe).

guys, let's keep my idea simple.

change tyre speed or some, and don't tell us. that's the idea.

(i see you both have ideas, write you thread!!! ahahahaha you bastards!!!! or just say. yes, Dan, good idea LOLOLOLO

*Watch as the devs pull out an April Fools joke for only that day that SS gets the tire wear of H now and H gets the tire wear of SS now and wet tires are the fastest in the dry(doesn't mean dry tires now can 't be used in the dry) and dry tires now fastest in the wet*

Our league this season is doing a mandatory 2 Tyre compounds per race, I've found it a lot more entertaining with everybody doing different strategies, maybe this could be introduced period?

yes, thats a good one but i bet thats not easy change to do for devs. as i think changing tyres performance should be easy. maybe im wrong

Sorry guys but actually Hard are BEAST mode tyres. You can use them practically everywhere in every condition (ok, not Montecarlo or Singapore) .
The problem is that they are the only high T compound (and that empirically proved, don’t care about theory), they are the longest lasting tyres(in some races you can go for a no-stop strategy if you save up fuel) and they even reach SS performance!

I mean...I know the game is different from reality, but this is getting boring. No people looking for pole position, just going for double hard to win it.

I think the best way to rebalance is getting the 3 soft compounds stronger and more heat resistant (just a few degree up). And reduce the long-term H performance.

It will lead to a more strategic game and give a new life to pole position battle.

i want a change, no matter what the change is. Just to change this reality we have since long time ago. Yes, new strats will appear for sure ;)

Dan,

Great idea about adjusting how tyres perform from time to time. I had thought the same myself recently. It would definitely spice things up. Create a cliff every now and then like Pirelli had recently etc.

I think any other options suggested (and suggesting options is good!) wouldnt work. Having limited number of tyres or selections will force us to race more like real F1 which would significantly reduce our options on strategies.

I also think being forced to use 2 different tyre compounds wont work and the different push levels would be mean that its impossible to race successfully unless you are online. And although I do think you should live manage your race as much as possible, in a competitive league the penalty for a poor result in even one race can be huge in respect to a title race. And everyone has days where they cant live manage.

So any chance of another tire war? Like Bridgestone vs Michelin with other tire suppliers?

Todays race at brazil I was chasing down 10th, He was on hard and i was on soft and my tyres were still good but then all of a sudden he was out pacing me! >X(

*examples of strats used are for 50% distance

Was hot in Brazil today (29C-30C!). So maybe combo of overheating and eventual tyre wear. In Elite tier of the league Conal's in, I got 1-2 with 1 stop s/h, and the manager in 3-4 also ran 1 stop s/h. It's not like H is a completely invincible tyre (it's still a bit of a cheese tyre to most though), even in the conditions it's best in, due to other factors like your track position, how you've used your KERS, the track's characteristics, and so on. In 23C in Brazil last season I was on the wrong strategy but with s not overheating was able to chase down and overtake some H runners. Softer tyres when not overheating and above 50% tyre life should usually be faster than Hards.

I personally like the 2 compound rule. In fact, if possible, I usually try to use at least 2 compounds when 1 stop H/H or 2-3 stops all SS isn't the only best strat to my knowledge simply due to my preference. Still, I also prefer if it were to be given as a customize-able option, so league hosts could tailor the rules to the league's liking.

Changing tyre characteristics from time to time? Should it be a game-wide thing or just a specific choice for each league? If it's going to affect the entire game, what should the average interval for each introduction of new tyre characteristics be? Every 3 months (around 5 seasons or so)?

Well I always use the two compound rules ever since I'm back to school so I have no problem with it

Game-wide thing if you ask me. i want it to be easy for devs. any other extra change will be against that idea.

for how long? i dont know, the last change was long time ago, depends on how good and balanced is the new reality.
i want them to decide that.

Changing the tires would have been OK during the summer when most circuits were running at 30C. Now it is not necessary to change anything about the tires as winter is approaching. At this moment I think they are perfect as they are.

And about limiting the tires I hope it will not be done. That's only done in F1 so that there are always a similar number of stops each race, there is nothing strategic, we would only limit ourselves, nobody could innovate or risk the strategy, I don't understand why people don't realize. It would only help the noobs by telling them what tires to put on.

I have sided on the multi compound or restrict pit stops but I fully see the argument why not to do it.

Where I see the opportunity is to have 5 tyre suppliers. Each has increase improvement
Michelen - super soft
Bridgestone soft
Pirelli medium
Tyres r us hard
Winter tyres wet

You choose what tyres you want at the start of the season and can't change.

Responding to leagues having the need to use a minimum of 2 compounds a race:
Having this rule, which preferably should be optional, only prevents you from using the same compound for all your stints, which I don't think is a particularly "innovative" tyre strategy to limit.

In 50% distance, apart from 3 tracks where the same tyre compound for all stints is the best strategy (will let you guys find that one out. In 100% distance there are 4-5 tracks), there is a wide arrange of competitive/winning strategies to use, depending on the track characteristics and conditions.

In 100% distance, there is even more strategic variation available, with stint length being especially flexible along with number of stops (2-7 or even 8 stops).

The reason why some leagues want to mandate minimum 2 tyre compounds a race, is because despite the variety of strategies available, there is a "Hards obsession" in the meta currently where in 50% distance for example, managers just use 1 stop Hards/Hards for almost all the tracks because it's so simple to execute. Above 50% tyre life throughout the stint and hard to overheat them. There are numerous managers even at the top of the HoF table who just spam Hards most of the time (this is not such a big issue in the league this team of mine is in, due to the depth of its field), though they are able to adapt once minimum 2 tyre compounds a race are mandated (like in one of the leagues another team of mine is in, IGP Champions).

It takes more skill to manage different compounds of tyres in a race as they have different wear and tyre heating, especially softer tyres with its tyre wear and need to manage temperatures even more. It however requires the manager to be active on the race viewer and live managing the race to execute it properly.
