How to get good pit stops?

Pit stops have always been a problem for me but after my race today I was curious about how to get a fast stop. I lost about 5 seconds in total over 3 stops today and although it might not sound like a lot, I'm in a competitive league so I lost countless positions or drs. Whilst it's not normally as extreme as this, it does always happen so I was wondering if it might be something I'm doing wrong. 

Less fuel=Faster Pit. Fuel economy can help with this, as can never fueling above 45 litres, as is common practice. 

Useful tip: don’t run out of fuel on the pit lane, it’ll make you lose important seconds for the race.

Sometimes managers report their pit stop had a bug, we check the lap by lap history and we discover they run out of fuel 100% of the times!

I get stops are based on fuel level, and not running out of fuel, but IMO pit blocks still exist! Out of interest, anyone know the added time for an extra litre?

You know what is really annoying about pit stops.. is when you come into the pits right behind someone and then leave again 1.5sec behind and then pit on the same lap later on jn the race???

Yeah that makes sense. Today however I was losing time to people who were on the same strategy as me.

 


That might explain why I lost so much in todays race as I did run out for 2 of the stops. However, I normally don't do that and have around 0.2-0.4 laps of fuel left when I pit and I still lose time. 

I have had several occasions where I'm on the exact same strategy as the cars around me, we pit together for roughly the same amount of fuel, and I lose anything between a second and 2, sometimes losing 2 or 3 positions. I've also overtaken people in the same situation. Personally I just put it down to a 'bad pit stop' so it doesn't annoy me too much ??

Let's turn our attention to the 2nd pit. This is lap 24-25. 1st me, 2nd DauT GP (DGP), 3rd Lupilu Racing Team(LRT). That's the order we go to the pit lane. There are also two more cars behind us. What happens? LRT goes the furthest and stops, he decides to do 15 laps on the next stint. I decide to do exactly the same, DGP decides to do 14 laps. I can't speak for DGP, but I didn't run out of fuel before stopping. Then how does LRT end up in the lead after pit stop? He overtook two cars. I know what the problem is. The problem is the traffic on pit lane. It's killing pit stops. The problem with the game is that the track and pit lane are one and the same. The mechanics of the game are no different on pit lane. So, when you have to pass cars which have stopped later than you on pit lane, the game considers that you overtake them on track and it slows you down. It seems strange. That's why it's easy to lose all your advantage on pit lane. Most of all I love the moments when I stop 2nd, the manager ahead of me drives to the end of the pit lane, 3-5 cars come in behind me, the leader without traffic pulls out and I have to drive past all those cars. You can see my car slowing down every time. Eventually the leader beats me by another 1-2 seconds and the cars behind me get closer. I usually set the aggressivity level to max just before the driver pits. It seems to make the pit stop just a tad faster (or then it is just my gut feeling). Also, it helps the driver to reach optimal tyre temperature, especially during cold weather.

I'm not saying anything about the pit stops themselves. They're working fine, it's gotten better. The whole problem is the pit lane. Or rather the lack of it in the game. I've lost position twice, so have the others. Overtaking after the start of traffic? Please. This is a racetrack, not a pit lane. There should be no overtaking on pit lane after the start of traffic. It's not possible. But it does happen. You can also see how slow cars affect your time on pit lane. If you get a car like that in front of you on pit lane... They must have a lower speed limit. Why is that? That's right! Because track and pit lane are the same thing. If you're lucky enough to have an abnormally fast pace in the race, you'll also be the fastest on pit lane. So maybe consideration will be given to adding a pit lane to the game?

Hey, I would incline to agree, the pit stops were fixed but not the pit lane. There are overtakes over the exit of the pit lane, as well as during the pit lane ‘pit blocking’. It’s very difficult to read the pit lane with all the cars together too. So if one car slows down to enter the box, the cars behind have a dirty air effect? They get caught up in the slowness, whereas others can enter and have no trouble with other cars. So is this luck based? You may got stuck behind someone?


Of course you can boost for track position entering the pit lane, but that doesn’t work often. If you have one of the first pit boxes you still get blocked as such
