They aren't charges for your engines, they are charges for the suppliers. You have three suppliers that you can choose, engine supply, fuel, and tyres, you can change these after every race to alter the car attributes to suit various tracks etc, it tells you the cost of each of these, that's what you are paying for not the actual engines. Engines are given every 10 races, you will need to use tokens to purchase new ones if changing every race.
