So, did we enjoy the race? I'm slowly falling out of love with F1... Yesterday I also watched the Formula E race from Long Beach and the BTCC, and both of these series gave much better racing (or at least viewing pleasure) than the F1 did. Will be watching the MotoGP tonight, and no doubt that'll be more exciting than the F1 as well! I really want to love F1, but its gone horribly wrong somewhere....

Try Nascar........... ;)

Nascar = Turning Left
Anyway, that race actually had the best racing in it of the hybrid era, exclude 2014 Bahrain maybe. It had loads of overtaking, added to by the sparks!

Personally I think if we forget the terrible qualifying problems we have in the sport, F1 has started to improve, definitely race-wise, I think that had great battles in it and as said by James, the sparks made it look good, so already I think 2016 is better than 2015 was.

Nothing wrong with Nascar I watch it :) I would play it & Indy car, if they would make a game for the PS4.
I want qualifying to be one 1hour session everyone fighting for position. Let everyone drive and race for 30minutes then for the last 30minutes start eliminating slow peoples. :)
iGP be the same :D let us watch and manage our cars both in practice, qualifying & race.
If they are indeed going to keep f1 elimination qualifying they will have to do away with the stewards spot checks, you come in to change tyres just before your count down starts & them clowns stop you on the way to your pit box grrrrr we is on a time limit bog off I see you once I out :P

I'd like see each driver doing just one lap... How about this... At the end of FP3 all drivers are lined up they take a ball from a bowl. That ball will have a number on it, and thats where they run in qualifying. Ball 1 is first out. Leave the pits, warm up on way to start finish line and then floor it for a single lap. When that driver ends the lap he slows down and returns to the pits, whilst the next driver is released, and so on until all drivers have been out. This way all drivers will have equal TV time, the crowd will be assured of a full session and no one will know the result until the last car crosses the line. Weather and track conditions will be down to luck so good chance of mixed up grids, and unlikely that two sessions will have the drivers out in the same order.
It'll also bring the costs down as they won't use as much fuel or as many tyres!
Damn, I need to be running F1! ;-)

That pretty much EXACT system was used before, in 2005 I think, before getting replaced after a few races; it doesn't work. Not only would the ones with lower numbers have a massive disadvantage, but if you made a small mistake then you'd be miles down which is part of the problem with this quali system. The biggest complaint about the current one is that you don't see cars on track enough, but that has them just have 1 shot anyway. The bit you said about weather is also a big negative not a positive; the teams will only take a disadvantage if it is their fault. What if that decides a title? It is inconsistent, unfair and just won't, and hasn't, worked.
Mark Barker medal 5000 8 years 266 days ago
Of course they'd have a disadvantage, that's the point! The random taking of numbers to decide the running order would potentially average out over the season, so they'd all have the same odds of being first or last out.
With regards to cars on track, there would always be at least 2 on track at any given time, apart from the first and last 90 seconds. Sure there wouldn't be overtaking, but that's not the idea of qualifying, and the drivers wouldn't have the "traffic" excuse for not getting a decent time. If they make a mistake, tough! They're meant to be the best, prove it! Cock it up and you've got overtaking in the race, so bonus!
James Greer medal 5000 8 years 266 days ago
1-shot qualifying does work :| either go for position or save your tyres. Bit like the game save the tyres and take lots of short cut's you still sometimes get pole :D
James Greer medal 5000 8 years 266 days ago
Mark's Idea is pick number Q1, pick number again Q2 & pick number again Q3 & each time you have only one hot lap. Cant be any worse than what's already in place!!!
James Greer medal 5000 8 years 266 days ago
1 free practice Sunday morning once it's over draw numbers for starting position and race in the afternoon.
How's that for money saving Fans buy tickets to see all in one day :)
James Pinsker medal 5000 8 years 266 days ago
One-shot has already been in and it completely failed, that's my point.
And yes, mixed up grids are alright but if you get a bad result it needs to be your fault, not about some number. You could lose a championship just because your number was bad. Whereas with other mixed grids, say Silverstone 2014 comes to mind, Ferrari wouldn't be too unhappy starting right near the back because it was their fault, and the Marussias would be happy because they actually earnt it.
To be fair though, I kinda like the concept of a single session, another thing that trialled before, but then limited running would occur?
Also, can we not focus on the problems with qualifying? We need to resolve what actually needs to be changed, and banning changing helmet designs and changing the already optimal qualifying is not what we need.
George Warrington medal 5000 8 years 266 days ago
One shot qualifying hasn't been done in F1, the system in 2005 was an aggregate system like being proposed now, but there were two sessions, one where light fuel was used, the other race fuel.
The system Mak mentioned isused in Indycar, and is succesfull there, so why not here! And there wouldn't be the need for Q1/2/3, as it will all be in one session. Also the comments about teams not happy what order they run qualifying in, over the course of the season this will even itself out, the traffic evolution will be minimal, the main changes seen would be caused by weather, which already plays a part

i keep saying nothing needs to be changed apart from the politics and quili. "get him out of the way" says vettel to every single guy who messed up. todt can stay hes done quite good in terms of rallyx becoming popular.AND GET THE FOM OUT PLEASE THEY DESTROYED THE OLD MANAGER GAME WE PLAYED! AND THEY CLOSES VERGOOD VIDS OF RACING MONTAGES AND TRIBUTES! WHEN THEY ARE MARKETING AND SHOWING F1! OOPS THIS MIGHT GET DELETED BECAUSE I USED F1 IN IT! DO I CARE! NO! DOES KIMI RAKKONEN CARE THIS TIME? YES! AND THATS SAYING A LOT. ONE SHOT OR BACKMARKERS AT FRONT AND FAST CARS AT BACK. SEE HOW THAT GOES.......(i know one shot was used before but one mistake and thats it) ps get rid of track extending so we can see a pole like hakkinens in imola 2000
Robert Jackson medal 5000 8 years 265 days ago
If they don't revert to the 1950 to 2002 or 2006 to 2015 mode, then they should switch to a 3-lap qualifying where the best lap counts (even the top teams should complete all laps, though).
By the way: Calm down, Gareth! DA would have shut down the F1-TM anyway for 2 reasons:
No. 1: He was tired of the game anyway (especially of the maintenance costs).
No. 2: There weren't many players left, and without advertisement, the number of active players would have been 5 to 10 in the next 2 years. Some players quit because the game itself was outdated.
I miss customizing your livery without having to subscribe, though.

i know.but remember there were 2 people who joined at the last minute. still i see where you are saying
James Greer medal 5000 8 years 265 days ago
It would be nice to see a lotto starting position, long as everyone remembers to give each other space and room in the first corner we shouldn't have a nasty crash
gareth robishaw medal 5943 8 years 265 days ago
just imagine that. would be amazing to see the faster cars try to overtake the backmarkers for position. it would give the backmarkers a chance then
James Greer medal 5000 8 years 265 days ago
It makes for good racing when you know you are faster than the car ahead, instead of making a risky lunge wait till you are on a straight and then overtake.
There are just too many gun-ho charlies about, closing doors & forcing people wide off the track. If there is a car up the inside, you don't turn in to take the apex you go around the corner on the outside. If it is a chicane the car on the inside will move to the outside so you can go on the inside, that is what you call racing respecting your fellow drivers and entertaining the spectators.
