Race starts update - LIVE

A major refactor to the simulators has just been rolled out to the live service. You can expect the following impacts:

  • Smooth race starts

  • Moderate position gains/losses on the start (no more teleports forwards or getting stuck)

  • Cars able to race closer together without visual collisions throughout the race

  • This update also critically resolved the only known remaining sim crashing bug, where cars would pile-up after the start. So if you had seen that, you can expect that to be fixed now too on Abu Dhabi, Netherlands and Monaco, for example.

  • Additionally, sim server capacity has been doubled. You should see better latency and have more stable pings in races.

The one known issue created by this update is that grids may not be visually aligned in the 3D race viewer. On the worst impacted tracks, some cars appear to share a grid space. They will still pull away calmly according to their actual grid slot, because it's purely a visual representation issue - the sim actually has them all in separate grid slots and the next viewer update will too. Don't be alarmed, this is expected. To align it requires an app update, so it will be resolved in the next app release.

These improvements apply across W2W 3D and 2D Classic modes.

  • Silky smooth race starts

  • Cars able to race closer together without visual collisions throughout the race

That is good.

Will be a good idea recover clean wind. Now the leader dont have crean wind effect so the tactic is to slow push so dont give drs, is better be second or third.
Recover clean wind change the mind of no pushing to pushing, and that is the focus on a race, push the max that You can, not show to take always drs.
Ability driver is insignificant, and favourite circuit too... That make no sense to have one driver or another.

And if there are collisions, call safety car lolol

So you mean you'd like to see more of a dirty air impact on the cars behind the leader?

Now dont have dirty air, that make softs tyres not goods and managers dont like be leader becouse dont have benefits.

Legendary drivers insignificant
Favourite circuit insignificant

Dirty air like before update is better, becouse now we recharge kers and can compite better

I agree with my colleagues; most races are a train of cars that are decided on the last lap. These days it's rare to see anyone break away from the pack, regardless of their car and tires.
Thanks!

Leading is still more advantageous, despite the reduced impact of dirty air. I've seen many times how managers deliberately slow down to let their rivals pass, which slows everyone down. And if you're at the back of the pack, you can't even move at your normal speed. Break away from the pack yourself

I agree with bringing back the dirty air effect, but I’ve noticed a much bigger problem: in the W2W simulation, cars randomly block each other; up to three cars take corners side-by-side, and often in that situation, even using the boost doesn’t move you forward, you just waste the boost... If I use the boost when the W2W has decided I have to stay stuck in a queue, the system should prevent me from draining the battery!
With W2W, getting stuck is just bad luck; there’s no skill involved... you can lose 3 positions and over 1 second in a single bend. This is leading many championships to return to ‘classic’ mode, undermining all your work on W2W.
So, OK, bring back the dirty air effect, but first sort out the traffic jams; otherwise, managers starting at the front will gain an advantage and those starting at the back will lose time solely because of random traffic jams.

Thank you for your efforts and for keeping us informed about your work

I am working on solutions for this precise situation (cars remaining side by side for too long, especially 3-wide). I am working on a smarter overtake resolution so these situations will more naturally resolve.

Today's update should also produce less boost and DRS blocking, hopefully. The simulation should be much more precise about the positioning of cars in packs.

I've been paying close attention to everyone's feedback and pain points with the races and am trying to address as much as I can.

I don't know if W2W has dirty air impact or not, but yesterday in the 2d classic mode  race was fantastic and notorious. This mode runs smoothly, you can feel the impact of the dirty air, and it's completely playable.

Dirty air is still present in all modes, it's probably just more noticeable in classic mode because the cars are single-file and can't avoid it. In W2W they can simply change lanes and avoid it. It's good to hear more positive feedback. Thanks!

A sido muy buena la actualización, al fin hemos podido correr sin ningún incidente, si es capaz de ejecutar esas nuevas mejoras que comentan, quedaría una actualización 2026 muy buena, gran trabajo.

Fantastic. Thanks for the patience you've shown waiting for these updates, I know your league was one of the worst hit by the start issues. Now it's a thing of the past and we can focus on more fun updates!
