Bug with new research function

I posted this in the New Year announcement blog but probably the wrong place to catch your attention.
If I understand the new research system correctly I think it may have a bug. Before the race tonight I set my research to focus on a single attribute... Fuel economy.
Before the race I had 57 dp in this area and the strongest team in that particular attribute (North Star F1) had approx. 100%.
Because I was focussing on a single area my research power was indicating 51% so after the race I was expecting to receive approx. 22 dp in Fuel Econ ((100-57) × 0.51) giving me a total of 79 dp.
Surprisingly I received absolutely no research dp at all, my total dp before and after the race was exactly the same in all eight attributes.
Can you confirm my understanding of the system is correct and if so please will you investigate this issue.
Finally, the post race email I received from my TD said I have one of the most developed cars. I don't know if this has any bearing on research, I certainly wasn't most developed in fuel economy.
Also I find it hard to believe I have overtaken Marcel in development as I always lag behind him in total dp.

exactly same case with my another team as well but what i understand our car's total DP might be most compare to other guys those guys must be focusing on developing some specific attributes of cars.
so we might need to wait if our HQ is not generating max design points compare to others else we keep on developing our cars with our HQ dp and our total DP will remain always high and we might not get the bonus dp ever
i dun know how the collecting the dp's from hq and developing the car just by bonus dp works might be the guys had cracked and they might be using this loophole for their cars performance enhancement strategically [will not say cunningly as it provides the chance to play with the game regulations ;) ]

You don't receive design points in areas where you have the most development in comparison to everybody else.

Are there others in your league with better fuel economy then you?

Same again tonight Jack, two consecutive races where all of my research is focussed on Fuel Econ and two consecutive races where I've received diddly squat in research dp. My fuel econ remains stuck on 57 when now Carpers Racing is on 100. Why am I not getting any research points to bridge the gap? I'm going backwards, at ths rate this latest version of spying/research is going to have the same effect as the ill fated first incarnation where having the strongest car was a major drawback.
Please can you explain what is going on.

how on earth are you getting 51%???

As I said in my first post I have 57 in Fuel economy and others have 100. I have 51% in research power so I should be getting 51% of the difference.... 51% of 43dp is 21.93 dp which depending on which way you round should take me to 78 or 79.

I don't know how I got 51% but I have. However, seeing as it's 51% of sweet Fanny Adams it doesn't really matter!

That's a bit scary level 1 would be getting nearly 91%

Innovation is still a thing or was it done away with after beta?

Jack the only additional information which may be pertinent is that the post race email from my TD says... "We have one of the strongest cars in the league."
Marcel left this league yesterday so now my team probably has highest total DP, is this disabling research on all attributes?

Same problem here. I got this e mail after the race;

"Report
Our design research uncovered no improvements at the last race."

This is not fair at all, I'm dropping even further behind and lose money in the next races.

On the other hand, the attribute I tried to research (the only one ticked) I was the best team at. But that wasn't said in the update notes given. I think it's a bug.

What you've described isn't a bug. It is understandable that you didn't know you wouldn't get any points in the attribute you devoted all your research to.

When the new spying/research system was created, it was updated to acknowledge if a car's design attribute(s) exceeds all other cars in its tier, then you can't gain anything from researching other cars because you have the best formula/research in that area(s). This might need some repeating with the latest update given to research.

e.g., If I have the most developed Downforce, my research on other teams in Downforce will be useless, because I have the best development in Downforce.

Before the latest update in research, this was already the case. It's likely lower level players in their respective tiers haven't realized this, since their research may have been netting them improvements in every single aspect of the car.

The issue Kevin is bringing here is he is not the most developed in a single aspect of his car's design and after devoting all his research resources to develop that single aspect (fuel economy), he did not make any gains in that area.

Tuomo. I think you need to research an attribute where another team is stronger than yours. If you research an attribute where your team is strongest it is not surprising that you didn't find anything extra.
I imagine that the larger the difference between your team and the strongest team in the attribute you're researching will result in you being awarded more points. Also focussing on fewer attributes will result in more points which is why I put all my effort into Fuel Consumption, the difference was 43 points and I should have gained 51% of the difference.

Oops, was typing this at the same time as Blunion provided a better answer lol.

I'm also spying for FE (with other attributes) and I get points from it, the only difference with you is you spied on 1 area only maybe the bug is coming from there : Can someone who spied on 1 attribute only confirm it ?

Is your team overall strongest in your league Joey? (Total DP)

Can I have 22 Fuel Economy points please :-P
