I thought that putting even a section of Christmas music on the forum was pushing my luck a bit. Some poor manager is going to read that in July and complain that I'm playing Christmas music too early. ?

Yes and no, usually wind turbines is used only for those modern electricity generating builds. However traditional windmills are not only mills as for producing flour. They were used for many things requiring mechanical power like actual mills (grains, oil), saw mills, hammer mills (forge), most importantly for people living in low areas, like the Netherlands, pumping water out of the country so people can go about with dry feet, and later also, often converted, producing electricity as they were often found on wide open lands that weren't the most priority spaces to be connected to the grid.

So yes, wind turbines are quite different to windmills, but no, while modern engineering materials give them a complete different look and they pretty much solely produce electricity that invention of electricity use just made it possible to disconnect the workload from the powered shaft and locate it at a more convenient place, so wind turbines are just the modern version of windmills. Despite the engineering unfortunately not as fascinating as a Mercedes W13 that holds better against its predecessor Mercedes 35HP, although I suppose if everyone, especially the neighbor going to work at 4 AM, had one the W13 wouldn't be that interesting anymore either.
