I am sure everyone thinks the same, Jason (me included). Another thing to be bared in mind. Although it may sound little money to some, I can assure you that is not the case. Some players are underage, they rely on parents for money, others (like me) leave in countries with low salaries and so on. So, yeah, we all pay to gain advantage. Most people who have multiple accounts usually pays for just one, and control (without KERS) the others with the paying 2D.
I work 12 hours a week, I fail to see the point.
A fairly arrogant answer. By all means, if you have the money and want to pay extra because you are associated with and enjoy the game, then all power to you, but I really do not care how many hours you work a week or how much money you make.
The reason that you are willing to pay is because you have been associated with the game, played it, and enjoyed it for a fairly long time. However, the general consumer will look at the two options, and go "pfft, why would i pay extra for one or two features." Due to the fact that the free to play and subscription are now so similar, I would be willing to bet that iGP would actually see a reduction in income.
Which is why iGP should adopt a similar strategy to that of league of legends. Instead of making it subscription based or donation based, continuously release products that can be purchased either through the in game currency (of course, this would require adjusting how much money can be made per race, it would need to be reduced by a SIGNIFICANT amount) or through actually currency. The current rewards points system sort of does this, but it should be adjusted. I will give some examples below:
In Game Currency:
- used to purchase and unlock new sponsors or supply partners (of course, these would require individual perks, which is what they are supposed to be adding)
- use to upgrade facilities
- use to purchase/ pay for drivers and staff
- used to purchase new tracks (custom league schedules, would require A LOT of in game currency)
Actual Currency:
- used to pay for driver name change, 100% health, new engines, drive nationality change, 2D viewer (already sort of does this)
- used to purchase and unlock new sponsors/drivers
- used to upgrade/purchase facilities
- used to modify team (team name changes, liveries, driver suit, team suit, driver helmet)
- used to purchase design upgrades
- used to purchase drivers/staff that may be above their current skill level (capped)
- used to purchase new tracks
Of course, in order for this to work, there would need to be a consistent release of new material such as suppliers, tracks, design upgrades, and facilities.
And yes, I understand, everyone will complain about the "pay to win" thing. But so what? If people want to spend their hard earned money to have a 100% car every season, while you save yours and only have a 100% car every two seasons, let them. If they want to pay for sponsors, parts, or suppliers that you can unlock over time, then let them.
