Andrew Hurn medal 5000 11 years 185 days ago
3 things I would like to remind you all of:
1. You may only have 1 team per tier.
2. If you are going to be absent for more than 7 days, please tell me, otherwise you may be removed for inactivity.
3. In the Elite tier, you should not be starting a new season with more than 80% car development.
Thank you

British Racing League – Elite Tier – Season 26 Review
Last season I talked about the apparent lack of domination that we were becoming used to. At one time championships were being won by a significant margin as one team shone above the others, but more recently there were 2 or 3 teams battling for the honours. It appears though that we are entering a different type of domination. In recent seasons many more drivers have won races & the margins of victory were reduced, but the last 4 seasons have generated 3 teams titles & 2 drivers titles for the same team. You could even argue that these championships were more difficult to win, with more competition & perhaps this means that this team is a better one than any we have seen. It certainly makes for exciting championships & this season would be up there with the best.
There were 10 different winners, just below our record of 11 from season 16. On 7 occasions the pole sitter went on to win & just 3 times the winner did not qualify on the front 2 rows of the grid, with 7th place being the lowest qualifying to produce a victory. & so to the season...
The freshly promoted Koskenkorva Racing (KR) team of Sami Tuukkanen took a surprising pole in Australia, which produced a 4th place finish, but they managed just a further 4 points from the rest of their season. It was Evans for Clifton Cairo's Sonic Boom GTI (SBGTI) who took the victory, with De Souza for Jeffrey Wolff's Young Chrome (YC) in 2nd & Weber for Adam Gosling's That Slow Much Luck Team (TSMLT) in 3rd & this set the tone for the season, with these 3 teams heading the race for the titles.
Evans impressed again in Malaysia taking pole & the victory by 8.5 seconds & then in China he performed a sort of miracle to come from 26th on the grid to finish 3rd behind his team mate. S Meyer (TSMLT) won from 7th on the grid, but the season looked half over already with SBGTI holding a commanding lead in both titles. Chandran for Chris Louth's Singha King Power (SKP) team took pole & the win in Bahrain, with De Souza in 2nd. Once again though the SBGTI boys were on form in 3rd & 4th to extend their lead. Spain saw Ahmad on pole for Follow Me On Twitter (FMOT), but the victory came from Goat (SKP) from 7th on the grid. Two in-a-row for SKP & 5 races into the season, they were 2nd in the teams title with 93 points & Chandran was 3rd in the drivers. But after such a promising start they scored 70 points from the remaining rounds & did not feature in the title race.
It was Muller's (SBGTI) turn to impress in Monaco. He ran in 2nd behind the pole sitter S Meyer until their 2nd round of stops, but once in front had speed the rest could only dream of, winning by an astonishing 14 seconds. At Turkey Oliveira took pole & the win for Bruno Sousa Ferreira's Ferreira Racing (FR). E Wood was 2nd for YC but once again the SBGTI boys were 3rd & 4th, it being Muller's turn to perform miracles coming from 23rd to 4th. Great Britain brought the only rain of the season, (no surprise to anyone who has spent any time there), & with it a master class of how to manage changing conditions. YC took 1st & 3rd & Reidj Free's Fillers Scuderia (FS) were 2nd & 4th, the rest were nowhere.
Muller won again in Germany from 4th on the grid & then took pole & the win in Hungary. This meant that SBGTI without a clear number one in the team were one & two in the drivers, with De Souza 23 points from the lead in 3rd. In the teams they had a 91 point lead from YC in 2nd & TSMLT a further 13 points behind. With 7 races to go, surely the title was Clifton's to win, wasn't it?
TSMLT took the first 1,2 finish of the season in Europe, (Spain) & the first chink appeared in SBGTI's armour as they took just 10 points, with Evans in 5th; their lead cut by 20 points. Things were better for them in Belgium, as pole yielded 2nd place for Muller behind E Wood. In Italy P Meyer for FS took the pole & victory, with SBGTI managing to keep the lead at 67 points. With just 4 races to go, they just needed to score consistently & the title was theirs.
At Singapore De Souza took the pole & win, with team mate E Wood in 3rd & this reduced the lead to 47 points. In Japan they finished 2 by 2, the YC pair taking 43 points, with TSMLT in 3rd & 4th & SBGTI in 5th & 6th. Their lead was now 22 points from YC with TSMLT a further 31 points back. In Brazil this 2 by 2 result was repeated, but this time it was TSMLT taking the 1st 2 places & YC in 3rd & 4th. Crucially though, SBGTI were only 7th & 9th, which meant that with 1 race to go, the order was; SBGTI 366, YC 363 & TSMLT 348.
You could feel the tension (& cut it with a cricket stump) as 3 of the top 4 teams in the world lined up for the finale in Abu Dhabi. YC qualified 1st & 5th, with E Wood on pole, TSMLT were 2nd & 3rd, but SBGTI were only 9th & 14th. E Wood led every lap & despite his team mate finishing in the pit lane he was still 6th. TSMLT battled for the other podium places with S Meyer taking 2nd place ahead of Weber in 3rd. SBGTI had led the championship from the start but the increasing speed of the challengers had taken its toll. They were 5th & 8th, which meant that YC took the title with 396 points from TSMLT with 381 & then SBGTI on 380. A quite incredible comeback. Clifton was gracious in defeat, but to have it taken from you at the final race had to hurt.
I spoke to Clifton Cairo about his season;
“I would lie if I told you that I wasn't disappointed after leading the championship the whole season. But it's part of the game and it gave me more reason to do better next time. All credit to Adam and Jeff who did a good job by keeping the pressure on me. I think it was the 2 restarts in Monaco that killed me. It gave Adam and Jeff the opportunity to close the gap in development and to qualify better in Monaco. I hope to have more luck next time.”
& so say all of us Clifton. Thank you.
I spoke to Adam Gosling about his season.
You missed out by just 15 points Adam, are you happy to be second or disappointed not to have won?
“I am very pleased with second, especially as I had a good run towards the end of the season. I am a little disappointed not to win but Jeff had an insane last 4 races, which helped him beat me.
Thank you Adam.
This is Jeff's 6th teams title, his 7th drivers title & De Souza's 4th. I asked Jeff about his season;
“Well the season started off slowly as I expected. I kind of knew already that Clifton was the man to beat, which he proved during the season. He led all the way till the last race, so I was just aiming to come second in the team championship. Pretty much the whole season I was battling with Adam for second place and wasn’t paying much attention to Clifton. But out of the last six races I won 4 and had 5 more top 4 finishes. When I qualified on pole in Abu Dhabi I already knew that I could convert it in to a win, which I did and won the Championship for the second time in a row.”
This makes it 3 team championships from the last 4 seasons & you were 2nd to Adam in the the one you did not win. You are the new world #1. Are there still things for you to achieve?
“I will aim for 10k reputation & would like to bring my league to even a higher level; without them I wouldn’t be number one.”
Thank you Jeff. Here is the final classification:
Drivers: De Souza (YC) 229, S Meyer (TSMLT) 198, Evans (SBGTI) 198, Weber (TSMLT) 183, Muller (SBGTI) 182, E Wood (YC) 167.
Teams: YC 396, TSMLT 381, SBGTI, 380, SKP 163, FR 145, FS 119.
In our Pro tier, Yuri Kasdorp took both titles with 13 wins & Nathan Jefferies is also promoted. In the Rookie tier, Pete Valley took both titles with 14 wins & Jonas Blixt is also promoted.
What to say about season 27? Jeff is the one we all have to beat & after his performance this season anyone with any sort of lead will have to be watching their rear view mirror & hoping that it does not contain a Young Chrome car.
All I can be sure of, as usual, is that there will be some great racing.
Edwin Smith
