I don't think my friends mean everyone. They just mean down to P15 or maybe P16. Half the grid getting points in a race is more indicative of where everyone is relative to each other. Oliver and Frank are still right, honestly, because consistency is key. At least, it should be. There are numerous cases in Formula One alone I can name where it was the case, not to mention IndyCar, Le Mans, and other series. It's not really fair that as Frank said, someone can get P8 once but be P20-32 for all 21 other races, and STILL finish ahead of another person who got P10 three times and never went below P15. Perhaps it is a challenge to achieve P10 or higher, and it's certainly one I enjoy. But you've gotta agree that it seems a bit strange for this to happen.
Going back up through this thread, I've also seen a couple suggestions to narrow the amount of points scored, which can be fair in smaller leagues, if the league host REALLY wants a challenge, or if they're nostalgic for Formula One of years past.
Old F1 pts system would definitely be more of a challenge especially in leagues where competition is close, but at the end of the day whatever the system the faster drivers will still come out on top.
