I think this would be good for leagues that are full. There's 32 people in these races but the game only cares about the fastest 10. Honestly custom systems would improve this problem

That's our point exactly! Glad you agree.

I use the MotoGP scoring for any of our side-competitions. If they made the maximum league size 24 rather than 32 then there wouldn’t be the massive problem of people constantly finishing outside the points but clear of relegation to PRO and therefore loosing interest and downloading another game… which has resulted in the PRO division being dead and has been for ages.
Been saying it for literally years though so doubt it’ll change soon, 24 is the perfect size for both competition for points AND a real battle to avoid the drop to PRO. I honestly can’t understand why the makers have sat back all this time and allowed the situation to happen, they’ve killed the game for any newcomers wanting to play and start from the bottom… and please don’t say “create accounts to fill PRO. This is another thing that is killing the game.
With all the amazing progress on the gameplay, it’s a shame we are still in this mess with the PRO division

Let's hope it doesn't become worse for newcomers with new levels.

I'm going to be level with you here, I absolutely HATE the idea of the devs mandatorily reducing the teams allowed in a league. If that idea is implemented, it should be done as a league rule, for managers to decide on individually.

Can I just re float the idea of amending points scoring within league.

So that the top 15 say score points. As a league host I guarantee this would increase retention of teams in elite. This could be optional or just forced amendment.

Has been floated before but ignored by IGP. Worth another poke perhaps

I'm a little late to the party, but I'll weigh in as well. Until recently, getting P10 was IMPOSSIBLE for me in Elite. So I definitely understand the struggles. That's why I support the idea.

I understand it would be easy to use but if you look at all the possible point distribution systems, there’s just too many.

Can’t we agree on this?

If you want a custom points system, my suggestion is you create a nice excel sheet. This way you’re free to do whatever you like AND the devs can work on other things (like squashing pit exit bugs), it’s a win-win

I agree and still can’t understand why this is important to others.  If you are finishing 12th each race having a pts tier which gives you pts doesn’t change anything material yes you get pts but you still finish 12th and those above you will get more pts so nothing really changes.  Physiologically it may seem more rewarding but it isn’t really making much of a difference.

I’m ambivalent to this as a league option just personally don’t see any reason to do it.

The differences are a league with some nice custom points system is valiant effort but in the end the championship table in the game says something different. The same with those 12th places, in championship it doesn't matter if it was 12th or 32nd with broken suspension. The guy getting once 8th and else never got above 20th will win above the manager getting 10th 3 times and never finished below 15th. If you're not playing for the race itself but are more interested to go for championship standings it doesn't matter if you play or not if you're not in top 10. Actually better not as you can save up DP for a few races to be in the game.

I've seen those managers not making it to the top, first in the lower points but some upstarts overtaking them and ban them to the midfield, then some start to appear less to races and thus removing competition for the rest which cause those to slowly loose interest as well.

I like the challenge to get in the top ten and when I got into the points I was well chuffed and motivated me to try harder. I vote to keep the way it is now. Giving points for everyone each race doesn't motivate you.

That supports one freak result over season-long consistency.

No it doesn’t ( although I suspect Dario was being a little sarcastic ?).  To be blunt customised  pts going further down the grid just rewards failure.  What next - cancel races and declare everyone a winner?

If iGP introduce customised pts and leagues vote for it it’s fine, but certainly it isn’t motivator.

I don't think my friends mean everyone. They just mean down to P15 or maybe P16. Half the grid getting points in a race is more indicative of where everyone is relative to each other. Oliver and Frank are still right, honestly, because consistency is key. At least, it should be. There are numerous cases in Formula One alone I can name where it was the case, not to mention IndyCar, Le Mans, and other series. It's not really fair that as Frank said, someone can get P8 once but be P20-32 for all 21 other races, and STILL finish ahead of another person who got P10 three times and never went below P15. Perhaps it is a challenge to achieve P10 or higher, and it's certainly one I enjoy. But you've gotta agree that it seems a bit strange for this to happen.

Going back up through this thread, I've also seen a couple suggestions to narrow the amount of points scored, which can be fair in smaller leagues, if the league host REALLY wants a challenge, or if they're nostalgic for Formula One of years past.

Old F1 pts system would definitely be more of a challenge especially in leagues where competition is close, but at the end of the day whatever the system the faster drivers will still come out on top.

Bang on mate, coming 15th or 16th getting points is stupid and like this guy said it rewards being crap. I have guys in my league and this one guy broke into the top ten, he's now super motivated to stay in the top ten and proper happy he made it.
Getting points at 15th doessnt motivate or excite managers playing.
Check my League wall, managers as Buzzing they got into points, u encourage them which makes people stay and push harder.

Encourages being crap?!

Well, in that case, why don't we just make a P1 points system? Not being able to win is a skill issue, right? Only the person who wins the race is good enough to actually win the race.

And plus, what you say will be an issue wherever we draw the line between points positions. People will almost always choose to hold position, even if it means a compromised pace. You wouldn't believe the amount of shithousery I used to see back in the day...
