We bid a fond farewell to the best player in the game, Jason Lee. Sadly the time changes with daylight saving mean that he is unable to race in our league.
Jason didn't win his 1st race with us, but he did win the 2nd, 3rd & 4th. He joined for race 8 of our 16th season & narrowly avoided taking both titles; had he joined earlier he would surely have done so. He proceeded to take them both in seasons 17, 18 & 22; he was 2nd in season 20 & 3rd in 19 & 23; a phenomenal record.
We shall miss his humour, musings on a wide range of topics not limited to iGP, & his fiercely competitive nature on the track. He changed the league & helped us to be better managers.
His record during his time with us:
258 starts
3 Teams titles
3 Drivers titles
51 Wins
30 Pole positions
149 Podiums
3518 Points
13.6 points/start
(If you have got this far, just dwell on that last figure for a moment. This is in one of the most competitive leagues & that's 27 points for the team every race. Astonishing.)
Thank you Jason. We look forward to seeing you this way again soon.

British Racing League – Elite Tier – Season 23 Review
This was our most competitive season yet & one which broke records. The drivers title wasn't decided until the penultimate round & the teams went to the final race, with 3 in contention.
More drivers than ever scored points, (34); no driver scored at every race, (which hasn't happened since season 15), the drivers title was won with the lowest score ever, 218, (previously Richard Lawrence back in season 4 with 223) & the teams title was also won with the lowest score ever, 325, (beating Richard Johnstone from season 16 with 336).
As I predicted last season, qualifying was by far a drivers most important attribute; 8 races were won from pole, 7 from the rest of the front 2 rows, 1 from 7th & 1 race was won from 8th on the grid. As the season progressed, managers almost knew their fate before the race had started & to make matters worse, the mid-field has never been so close. On occasion ten cars would be split by a tenth on the grid. The difference between success & failure has never been so small.
We were treated to a fascinating battle in the teams chase. Early on it was between Jeff Wolff's Young Chrome team (YC) & Chris Louth's King Power (KP). Jeff managed to win 3 of the opening 4 races, but wasn't scoring much with his 2nd driver. Chris on the other hand was scoring more consistently & when he won in Monaco, they were tied on 124 points. Jeff won again in Turkey, Chris won again in GB. Jeff took the next in Germany & Chris took the next in Hungary. But through this mid point of the season, Jeff had a signed a new driver & it was he who was now picking up points with both drivers. Chris now trailed by 48 points & it looked as though Jeff had things under control. Neither of them did well at Europe & Belgium, but Chris then took the next 3 victories & with Jeff failing to score in Japan, Chris had brought the gap down to just 15 points. They were both looking over their shoulder now too, as Jason Lee was making a late season charge & won in Japan. Chris out scored Jeff there & the gap was just 7 points going into the finale. Jason needed a 1,2 & some other good luck, but Jeff held his nerve taking the victory from pole again & securing the title.
Young Chrome managed 6 victories, 4 pole positions, (converting them every time) & twice had a 1,2 finish. This was their 4th teams championship.
I asked Jeff about his season;
“The fight between Chris, Jason & I went down to the final race but luckily for me I took pole & was able to seal the championship with a win. The key for me was being able to consistently score points. Also I introduced some new talent who was outstanding both in qualifying & the races.”
How important is qualifying now?
“This league is so competitive that a couple of tenths could put you outside the top 20”.
Tell us a little about yourself Jeff.
“I am 27, I live in the city of Almere in the Netherlands, which is about 35 km east of Amsterdam. I am a network manager for an IT services company. When not playing iGP, I enjoy going to the gym & playing basketball.
Thank you & congratulations Jeff.
Chris Louth had some consolation in taking his 6th drivers championship. With 6 victories & a further 2 podiums, Goat took his first drivers title. Young Chrome's De Sousa kept pace with Goat right up until Singapore when they were separated by just 4 points, but Goat took the next at Japan & 2nd in Brazil was enough to take the title.
I asked Chris about his season;
“Mixed feelings really. About three quarters of the way through the season my chances looked slim, but then Goat began to qualify better & he eventually got ahead of De Sousa. Persisting with Cooper cost me the teams title. He was 2nd in Monaco, but failed to score after that & I should have replaced him with Villeneuve sooner than Singapore. The three late season wins for Goat were amongst my best I think. None were simple: doing 1 stop less at Monza worked a treat; sort of messing up my strategy from pole in Singapore, but being brave enough to switch strategy again; & then having Jason all over me at Suzuka, but using my kers wisely to hold him off.
I asked Chris the same question as Jeff, how important is qualifying now?
“Qualifying is vital; simple as that. Most of the managers in the league know the best strategies for each track now, so you're not going to win when you start from 20th on the same strategy as the pole sitter”.
Thank you & congratulations Chris.
The final classification:
Drivers: Goat (KP) 218, De Sousa (YC) 194, Rosberg (Doxjq1) 143, Meyer (That slow much luck team) 114, Louth (Doxjq1) 105, Csapo (Team Red) 103.
Teams: YC 325, KP 302, Doxjq1 298, That Slow Much Luck Team 206, Team Red 173, Sonic Boom GTI 115, NSS GP 114.
Once again a team relegated despite scoring points. Fernando Nunez' SRT team managed 2 points, but was 13 behind the next team & was relegated along with Fargo Farinas' ColoColo team. We might even see everyone scoring next season, as the promoted teams have previously spent time in Elite. Anthony Davies' ANT team bounced straight back after just a season in Pro & Fernando Dalmeida's Invictus Competition have previously spent some 11 months in Elite & is a proven winner.
It's difficult to assess where the teams are for next season, due to the overwhelming importance of qualifying. The mid field was packed with championship winners & it felt as though anyone could win, if they qualified near the front. I said last season that opportunities to win would be scarce, but I wonder whether it's the races where you don't qualify well that are going to make the difference. For example, in Malaysia, Smetowski from RJR came from 23rd on the grid to finish 3rd. At China Rosberg from Doxjq1 came from 19th to be 2nd & in Spain Mansell from Doxjq1 came from 28th to be 4th. So it can be done & perhaps Chris was right earlier when he said it required bravery to make a particular strategy change. Perhaps you need to know how to jump up the order when qualifying goes poorly & not accept that your fate is decided before the lights go out.
My award for most improved goes to Jeff Wolff. He made his mark last season, his 1st season in the league, but no-one could have predicted him winning the championship this season. It wasn't just the winning, it was the way he held Chris & Jason off towards the end of the season. They are considerably more experienced & this performance has launched Jeff into the top 5 players in the game. Well done Jeff.
So it only remains for me to wish my fellow competitors luck in the upcoming season & ask them to go a bit slower so that I am not facing the prospect of relegation again.

In the UK we change to daylight saving time this weekend. This means that if you are outside the UK, you may find that the race on Sunday starts one hour earlier.
I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause
