New developer and mobile app tests

A developer joins iGP

It has been a busy few weeks since the last blog post, when we were seeking an additional WebGL developer. Since then, I’m happy to announce that a new developer has joined the team, bringing games industry experience and a solid understanding of WebGL technology.

Successful mobile app tests

We’ve conducted preliminary tests on the technologies for our mobile app project. In these tests, the iGP web application was compiled as a mobile app, with great results. It produced a stable framerate on high-end mobile devices such as the Samsung S3 up to the current S6 model. I can’t say much for other devices at this stage as we haven’t tested them properly, although a Sony Xperia Z also performed very well. We will be testing our technology on many more devices in the months ahead, including Apple’s iPhone and iPad.

Progress on the new igpmanager.com

The bulk of our focus for now remains on igpmanager.com and the web application, which will be released before a mobile app. As mentioned in the previous blog, initially the web will utilise the existing Java race viewer, with the replacement WebGL race viewer scheduled to arrive later.

We are still targeting Q3 for release of the web app, which looks reasonable at this point, albeit at the end of Q3. Because it includes major gameplay revisions as well as a new interface, we need to test it thoroughly and take as much care as possible over the public release.

I would love to share new screenshots and videos of some of this in action, especially on phones, but it wouldn’t show much, other than giving away a couple of changes we haven’t announced; stuff we’d like to keep under wraps for now!

In summary, it looks very promising at this stage and we’re excited by these early test results and developments. There is still a lot to come, but we believe it will be well worth the wait.

@Herr - The new viewer will probably not arrive before Java and Unity are unsupported by Chrome.

Will this drop before Java and Unity are unsupported by Chrome? I really don't want to have to use Explorer...

Looking forward to the possibility of being able to use my phone/iPad to view races as not having a PC at home and only at work really restricts my chances to be able to attend races costing me several potentially crucial points every season! Make it happen Jack! Nice to see the game moving forwards!
