Leave it for my league, but thanks anyway! :)

How reliable do you think it will be by tomorrow night..?

Tomorrow night will be the first real test of the changes. So many things didn't run today, that for the most part we weren't really running the update in the end, just fragments of it.

It's a real shame and a big disappointment for us especially, but these things happen sometimes. It is essentially a complete rewrite of the service underlying the game, so it's a huge undertaking.

The Iracing Junior Lunch Time leagues results for qualifying aren't found when I tried to look for them?

Jack,

No big deal bud. Going live with updates as you know can have a bit of a different reaction than in testing. Thanks for keeping us in the loop and letting the race restart and run its course.

I'm pretty sure I just spotted the whole problem... someone started one file with the wrong linux user. I just noticed it looking at the process list on our servers.

Don't hold it against them because it was their first major update with us. I'll take care of the spanking. ;) It shows how fiddly these things can be though. While on the front end it looks like nothing is working, in fact everything is fine except one process is being run by the wrong user, which didn't have the correct permissions to access the stuff it needed to. That explains the odd behavior earlier where I was running commands that were being ignored by the service.

It's almost funny, almost...

@ Sándor Márki
Go wash that mouth of yours.
And meanwhile, if you have nothing better to do, make some paprika or goulash.
At least it will keep your mouth busy....

International GP Championship rookie did run last night, but now it seems that we have to do it over again tomorrow - why?

It worked for me, and by changing my pit strategy i manage to get an eight place and valuable points for the overall, so im not so happy at the moment.

Hopefully we will have rain again tomorrow :-D

In some leagues some tiers ran and others didn't. This was because some people were running on the old service and some people on the new one. It opened such a can of worms in the end that it made more sense to postpone the leagues affected, which may have swept up some of the races which ran. I hope you can get some points again today.

Yesterday we ended up scaling back the new service to the point that nobody was really using it. Then we put one or two leagues on to it carefully and watched what happened, and found the several improvements and even fixed a couple of older things during the tests. It was a very productive evening in the end, as difficult as it was.

Tonight everyone will be using the new service. It took a while to get the thing cranked up! :) It might take us a while to get cranked up again after yesterday as well. It really took it out of us! I ended up working 15 hours straight and having food brought to me. I may need to develop a system like Cartman's if things get any worse.

Jack, How are we doing today, looking good or still possible problems going around?

Jack, How are we doing today, looking good or still possible problems going around?

Everything is going really well so far. The update is running smoothly.

The only thing which is not currently live, and will be put live tomorrow hopefully, is the situation where if a simulator crashes then a race will restart from lap 1. Once we put that little component of the update live (hopefully tomorrow) races will resume from the point of the crash, instead of restarting.

The parts that are currently live should really improve pings and connections around peak times and minimize any crashes. So, fingers crossed, we're unlikely to have crashes that will cause races to restart in the first place.

Sometimes silence speaks a thouand words. Tonight everything ran perfectly. :) No lag at peak times either. The improvements work as intended.

We will implement a few of the other features (like race restores from crashes) in the remainder of the week. This will move things forward a lot for iGP, and free us up to focus on gameplay without being stopped every evening to do maintenance and repair races.

I still had lag after 2/3 of the race, as always. is it still a issue? i thought it was to be fixed with this patch. it is really annoying...

Anyway, thanks for all the work at this patch

I'm planning to release a survey in a week or so for everyone to tell us what, if any, improvements they have seen in the quality of the service, to gather all the feedback and see what times of day people may still be experiencing issues, so we can further tweak and refine the implementation of the updates.

The answer to your question is: it shouldn't be, and it depends whether we're talking about the same thing. If we are, I would like you to keep me posted over the next few days. There are some things that might be confused for server lag which aren't, caused by Java or your internet connection. For example, Java can sometimes stutter or freeze the viewer completely. This is a viewer glitch and not lag. Lag manifests as cars warping/rewinding around the track, out of sync viewers among spectators etc.

As well as reducing lag, the other main goal of this update is to massively reduce the frequency of the "connection problem" error and to reduce its impact when it does occur to being an inconvenience to a few races closest to the source of the problem, rather than a service-wide issue.

Well, if lag manifest only as a car going back and forward then it wasn't lag. The viewer gets slower as more laps pass, usually after 2/3 of the race, but it happens always. When it happens i just close the viewer and open it again, that fixes it.

That's good news in terms of the update, not so good for your experience. But I can confirm that's a Java/viewer issue. We want to rebuild the viewers on another platform altogether (HTML5 most likely) as soon as we can, but our hands are tied with other work at the moment. If there are any HTML5 canvas developers reading this - get in touch! We would love any help we can get.

Which version of Java are you using? Also, is there a lot of chat in your races? I've heard in the past that lots of ongoing chat can potentially cause the viewer to freeze after a few minutes, although it's rare.
