Motor racing in film

Have you seen "Days of Thunder" with Tom Cruise?

That is an interesting list Dan.

Not sure that some of them can be classified as motorsport, rather than films with cars in, but you could argue that of many of my recommendations. For example, is Rush a film about 70's Formula 1 or a story of rivalry & heroism that has cars in it? Perhaps we should define them more clearly, 'documentary' or 'drama'? Discuss........

Senna is obviously in the 'documentary' category as such, as are the 4 bike films, Faster, Fastest, Road & Hitting the Apex. It would seem that most of the popular car films are dramas. Curious.

How many of you.............yes you..........have sat through Life in 24 for example? I have done & will again, but then I enjoyed the cut & thrust of the 6 hours at Silverstone on Sunday, (& was glad to find it rather warmer than the snow they had on Saturday).

I have just been rather suprised to find that some of my friends in BRL, have not seen Le Mans. Indeed many of them have not seen any motor racing films at all.

Ronin for sure! I like all about that movie, but I've watched it specifically for the car chase; heard the name Deirdre for the first time and how about that early role for Sean Bean? Great movie!!

This starts on Sunday on the CMT channel & looks absolutely superb. It tells of the history of NASCAR, with dramatic elements to illustrate the story.

Cannot wait

The BBC made a documentary called F1 The Killer Years which was interesting.

Speed Merchants is a very good one about sport car racing.
