Hello everyone.

With the latest IGP update having dropped nearly two weeks ago I thought it about time someone put together a quick guide to the new Engine Manufacturing feature. This guide will deal with the mechanics of Engine Manufacturing, I will not be making any recommendations about circuit specific tuning, finances or supplier/customer relationships. These aspects of manufacturing will be for the Manager to decide for themselves.

IMPORTANT
Before you commit to spending 10 tokens and £100m game cash you should be aware that becoming an engine manufacturer is a one-way process, there is no going back. You will manufacture and supply engines for your own team and the standard game engines (Murk, Tifosi etc.) will no longer be available to you.

LEVEL
Your team level is linked to engine manufacturing in a number of ways:

  • You must be Level 20 to become an engine manufacturer.

  • You can supply your engines to customers. The maximum number of customers you can supply is Level – 20.

  • The number of Engine Points (EP) you can assign for each circuit is capped at your team level.

ENGINE POINTS (EP)
EP can be collected in one of three ways:

  • As a manufacturer you are awarded 1 EP after each league race.

  • You may receive a maximum of 5 EP each day watching adverts on the mobile App.

  • EPs can be purchased in exchange for tokens in the shop at a cost of 1 token per EP.

TUNING
You assign EP to your engines to boost any one of the eight design attributes. There is a cap on the number of EP you can assign equivalent to your level and your engines can be tuned differently for each of the 24 circuits.
The design attributes are paired, adding EP to any attribute will result in its pair receiving a negative value of 50%.

The design attribute pairings are:

  • Acceleration & Braking

  • Downforce & Handling

  • Fuel Economy & Tyre Economy

  • Cooling & Reliability

These pairings cannot be changed until a Manager reaches Level 30 at which point they can edit the weakness.

Examples:
You assign 20 EP to Acceleration for Great Britain. For this circuit your base design will be modified to +20 Acceleration / -10 Braking.

You assign 21 EP to Handling for Germany. For this circuit your base design will be modified to +21 Handling / -11 Downforce.

CUSTOMERS

Your first “customer” is always your own team, so if you become a manufacturer at Level 20 you can only supply engines to yourself. For each level above 20 you can supply engines to another customer team, at L21 you can have one customer up to level 30 when you can have 10.
As a manufacturer you can determine the cost per race of your engines to any team that uses them. The range is between £500k and £1m in £100k increments.

MISCELLANEOUS (Answers to questions)

  • A popular misconception is that EP are reset at the end of a season. This is not the case, once EP have been assigned to a circuit they remain assigned, they will not reset, nor can they be removed and assigned to a different circuit.

  • In addition, any EP that you have not yet assigned are also unaffected by the end of season reset process.

  • The attribute to which EP have been assigned can be changed at no cost. For example, you put 20 EP to Braking for USA which results in +20 Bra / -10 Acc but later realise you made a mistake and in fact wanted to assign the EP to Fuel Economy. You may edit the attribute to which you assigned the EP for the USA circuit at no cost which will result in +20 FE / -10 TE.

Currently the Customer / Supplier relationship favours the customer. If you're a manufacturer you need to be aware that anyone can choose to use your engines without your agreement.

As a manufacturer, the only way to prevent unwanted customers is to ensure there are no free customer slots.

The Devs are aware of this, it is on their list of future enhancements but they are not in a position to commit to a timescale.

You can’t remove the 21 ep from the engine, but can switch it to a different attribute, e.g from Acceleration to Braking.  You can do this each time you race on the same track

Good question, I will update the guide to answer this so that others don't have to search through many posts to find the answer.

Once EP are assigned to a circuit they do not reset. There is no charge to modify the attribute to which the EP have been assigned.

And what prevented this issue from being resolved at the development stage?

Why be a customer..? Is that any benefit

You get the (better than otherwise) engine of someone else without needing to develop it yourself, and can always back switch to a standard engine if it proves better for that track

I have never seen this possibility in the store on the mobile app.

They are there.  1 engine pt per video watched (max of 5).  You can also earn xp pts by watching videos as well.

Thanks for your timely reply. But nothing for me.

Hello! Can someone give me something that tells you what area of strength you have to put in the engine in each circuit?

Hello! Can someone give me something that tells you what area of strength you have to put in the engine in each circuit?

I intentionally didn't give readers any advice as to which attribute to assign their EP. One reason is that it's a management game and part of the challenge is discovering the ideal design balance for each circuit.

Secondly, I'm not convinced that the only consideration is the circuit. It might also be worth considering your design strategy. For instance, can you improve a key design attribute using the engine without adding dp from your Design HQ thus improving your research potential?

I have no issues with sharing the mechanics of the game to help others understand how the different game features work but personally I'm not in favour of these very prescriptive guides that are simply a "Recipe for success".

Thanks for the response Kevin. I understand the first, in the second I had not thought about it and finally, I am quite ambitious and impatient. I have a question about the improvement points of the own engine. How many points can be accumulated saved? I would appreciate an answer.

Kevin, as always, you have a valuable plethora of knowledge and I thank you for sharing this with us. May I ask your opinion? Would you say the right long run play would be to start engine manufacturing sooner than later? I'm so hesitant to pull the trigger on this, but it feels like those that do it now will be so much further ahead a few months from now. How do you feel about it? Thank you again! 🏁🍻

It's personal choice and I really don't want to get into "advising", especially as there are far more competent managers out there than me.

What I will say is that the most popular of the standard game engines give +10 / -6 (net +4), two give +5 and one +6.

A manufacturer engine with only 12 EP assigned to each circuit will also give a net design gain of 6 thus matching the best you can achieve with a standard engine.

By the time you have assigned 20 EP to each circuit you will have a net gain of 10 and eventually at level 30 you will have a gain of 15 with the added bonus you can specify the negative attribute. Imagine an engine that gives +30 in one of the big 4 balanced by -15 Reliability... Yes please, I'll have some of that.

Personally I don't think that many people at L30 are going to share such an engine with their rivals so at some point you're going to have to think about becoming a manufacturer. As for when to take the plunge, IMHO it will very much depend on whether you are prepared to slowly develop your engine capability at relatively low cost as you level up from 20 to 30, or wait until you get to L30 and throw at least 700 tokens at it. It might be more because we don't yet know if there will be a charge to edit the negative attribute.

So to sum up, I haven't really helped much, it's a personal decision but hopefully the above gives you something to think about.

I'm not aware of a limit to the number of unassigned EP you can save. But the most you will ever need when you get to L30 will be 24 circuits x 29 EP = 696 EP.

However, right now I can't think how storing EP would give any real benefit.

Hey kevin,
I am having a problem in changing the price of engine. Everytime i go to change the price it tells me to change after 2 days. When I go to change the price after 2 days it then also tells me the same thing.
Any suggestions, here is the link to the engine

If I retain the points for one season the following season do they remain?
