Overnight we made some important discoveries. If you join a race now you may already see an improvement over yesterday, without even installing any updates or patches.
We discovered that some simulators in the service did not pick up the correct configuration. They were online and fully operational, but they were running the simulation in a different way that would have contributed to 'lag-like' symptoms. Races conducted on these misconfigured simulators would be far more likely to see cars warping around the circuit, moving in a stop-start motion and so on. Sound familiar? Meanwhile, those that were racing on simulators with the intended configuration were overwhelmingly positive in their feedback, and at worst said things like "it wasn't that bad" and were confused by the reports others were making. This explains the huge discrepancy in feedback from different people on day 1.
What is on your device is only half of the game or less when it comes to races. The other half, the race simulation, is actually conducted remotely and fed back to the device. What we found last night suggests that the part that runs remotely was largely responsible for producing these outcomes inside the app.
We have also identified issues in the configuration of certain tracks which would further contribute to these behaviours. Pursuing the deadline to launch we weren't able to identify these beforehand and the next app update will include fixes for all tracks. These may have contributed not only to warping/lag-like behaviours but also to unusual behaviours with lap times. For example, we saw some reports of all cars setting virtually identical times in qualifying or the race, and we think these were rooted in issues with the track files.
Lastly, regarding reports of an extremely slow / unstable 2D viewer, it seems that for some people the apps are launching a WebGL version of the viewer inside the app's web view. This is guaranteed to cause problems and this is another thing we can probably fix remotely without an app update. We'll be investigating this today as well to ensure that 2D only ever launches the app version, not the web version inside the app!
We've begun moving DRS zones on all circuits back to where they were before the update and we expect this to be with you in the first update too.
tl;dr: we think we've identified the root causes of most problems already, and expect to see significant improvements over the next few days.
its great that you work so quickly to sort out things, but theres more problems. it seems that practice races do not contribute towards drivers experience no more. usually 20 practice races were needed in order to level up experience by 1 point. nore does it do damage to car and engine or drivers health? Is it purposly like that? and how many practice races are required now in order to level up Drivers experience by a point? a answer would be very much appreciated.
Best regards and happy racing, David Richards
