P.S. The guy that says the best manager is always the winner is talking nonsense. At a recent Austria race I gambled and chose a completely different strategy to everyone else and was flying after 3 laps on the same tyres as my competitors, after about 10 laps I was miles ahead, there was no way I couldn't win. And then four cars started a DRS train and there was nothing I could do, I was a sitting duck and watched my lead being eaten away. Then it became a boost 'shootout' lottery and I came 4th! Can you imagine that happening to Lewis Hamilton with a 5 second lead? There would be uproar. If I sit in the DRS pack, dont get involved in the race, wait for the last lap, hit the boost button and win the race that does not make me the best manager. I just got lucky.

I've been playing this game since January 2015. It was fundamentally changed in August 2016 in preparation for the mobile app and before this the DRS was much less effective than it is now. In fact IIRC you had to boost at the same time as DRS was active in order to effect an overtake.

However, over the course of a season the best managers always became champions in the old game and it remains the case now. It isn't luck if someone sits in the train and wins the race, it's because they know the characteristics of the circuit and they adjust their race strategy accordingly. In any case they won't sit at some random place in the train and save 100% KERS, they will manage their cars to be in the correct position within the train to make the most of the late race boost fest. They will also be reacting to other teams using their boost during the race.

You say your gamble at Austria meant you had an insurmountable lead and there was no way you couldn't win. Did you win? No, the better manager  won because he didn't panic and chase your leading car by unnecessarily wasting boost.

It's really not a fluke that the same managers are successful race after race and season after season . They have done a lot of testing, collected an enormous quantity of data and analysed it in great detail. Changing DRS power won't make a difference, they'll still win.

Personally speaking I'd rather lose than have to endure an entire season of what would effectively be wet races where your qualifying position dictates your finishing position and you just sit there for half an hour or more watching dots go around a track.

Remember there are also a large group of players who would like to see DRS introduced in wet races, which is the polar opposite to this suggestion.

I think Renta Driver's idea is the best option, make DRS and KERS something that is configurable by the league host. If that can happen great, if it can't then please don't impose these changes on everyone.

In my opinion (meaning it isn't necessarily correct), the top managers in this game win at all circuits regardless of the DRS power because they adapt their strategies, car development and race management to take advantage of specific circuit characteristics.

If you nerf the DRS at circuits where some people believe it is too strong and/or increase the clean air effect you simply make every race the same, a Monaco / wet race clone where the cars that qualify at the front have a huge advantage.

Ultimately it will make very little difference, the best managers will continue to win and those who don't win will continue not to win.

There is no strategies the user is very limited in how we can influence the race, it's always a 3 or 4 stop, mostly 4 and softs, This game requires absolutely no skill.

The last thing we want are Monaco clones or wet race similarities, this would hurt the game a lot I feel but if there was some kind of middle ground that could be reached where instead of the power train always dictating the pace of the race (solely because drs is so strong) that it could be made easier for the cars that are actually faster to break free of the train and create a more realistic battle between the cars that are racing at the front, who are not in a train lap after lap after lap. So instead of it being a drs/train race it now becomes a more realistic F1 race where you're racing against the car in front of you and the car behind you instead of a different player every lap, again due to the power of drs and it's capacity to change positions as much sometimes as 4 cars every lap (Austria *cough cough*).

So if DRS effect was reduced and faster cars were given the opportunity to break free we still of course want to see exciting racing at the front. So that leaves us with a question, how do we prevent the Monaco/wet race clones? Well dry races you will always have drs to combat any tedium that settles into a race but at the same time we want there to be closely fought battles between the cars at the front who do manage to break free. So an idea may be for the developers to decrease the powerful drs effect and at the same time to create a clean air effect only when leading, and in close proximity to, a pack of 4 cars or more. This way trains will be broken up far more easily with both a temporary beneficial clean air effect and a less beneficial DRS effect. At the same time any cars that do escape free of the train won't have an easy ride off into the sunset with a permanent clean air effect, because the effect only temporarily exists to enable faster cars in a substantial train of 4 cars or more to break free.

So here any of the faster cars that do break free will be racing against each other without the assistance of clean air, which would prevent stalemates like Monaco, and instead races could ultimately be decided by whoever has the most developed car, most skill and best strategy. This I think would create more realistic races giving players a real chance to test their skills against each other rather than a locomotive for 54 laps! This is just an idea that could probably do with a lot more fine tuning or may possibly even provoke an idea from someone else who may be able to come up with an alternative solution possibly along the same kind of lines that would be more idealistic and suitable to what I'm trying to achieve! In other words great battles throughout the field without the existence of an ever present huge train!

Totally agree, whatever changes you can make will always win the same, good ones, who have gathered information and know how the game works, but this happens in normal leagues.

This game has a fantastic community that has made it possible to create "special" leagues that brought together the best players, and in those leagues, tracks like Italy and Austria are almost always banned, because they are considered useless trains and based only on luck.
Honestly I don't agree to lower the DRS too much, but neither to keep it so high as to make certain races useless, the right compromise would be to find a perfectly average DRS, not too high and that allows the leader to escape (strategy permitting), and not too low to stall the race.
I consider this task extremely complicated and I thank the Gods of Olympus (???) for not being a developer of this game, already struggling with other far more important problems.
Good Luck ?

Hi Everyone,
In my honest Opinion, even though DRS effect is greater in some tracks than others, I still think that it is a great racing tool that can be used to anyone’s advantage, given that the subject in case has a balanced car and great race management skills.
I would even go as far as suggesting two DRS zones in some tracks where DRS is so called "weak” and to extend the use of DRS up to the 2.0mm water level (this would add to greater race on Inters).

Thanks

Come on, let's be honest, we've all been coming up to the last lap, a train of about 6 cars, all got over 90% boost left, you hit the lap and everyone hits the boost button, are you seriously telling me you can tell me who is going to win that race, because none of the players do, it's a lottery! And to say that the best manager won the race is ridiculous and lazy because there is no way of quantifying it.
You are missing the main point, if players want to sit and wait until the last lap dash to the line so be it, we have no problem with that BUT if the DRS could be tempered just a little it would encourage different and interesting strategies AND as others have said the huge advantage soft tyres have in comparison to mediums was slightly tempered this would also have the same effect of introducing more involved and interesting managing decisions before and during the race. That's ALL we're saying. There's NO need for managers to remove DRS or BOOST completely, it just needs a bit of tweaking to make the whole more interesting and involving. Why anyone would be against that defeats me.

I know I'm arriving late to the party, but what frustrates me more than the current DRS strength is when the race is decided by a lapped car DRS. I know in the real F1 they also get DRS from the lapped cars, but not in a way that changes race result.

I'm sure that what I mentioned doesn't happen with the majority of you that are replying to this post, but if something is going to be changed, perhaps DRS from lapped car could also be considered.

Yes, if I don't win due to DRS or boost someone was just better than me at acquiring the better mix of remaining boost and position, or just played those cards better in the last laps. But with lapped cars you sometimes just loose either way, catching DRS or not. Though I'd accept if I'm told that's because I just suck at predicting track positions five or so laps ahead.

I believe the biggest problem isn't the DRS strength itself, but rather the tyre temperature increasing fast when you try to pull away alone or to cut a gap down only using Push Levels to save the scarce Boost.
This lack of Pushing makes it hard for you to do the race alone while someone else staying in a DRS, in which is easier to manage the tyre temperature, specially for good players/managers, has plenty of tyre life to push in the last couple of laps and go for the win.

Tracks like France, Belgium, GB09, Japan are my picks to describe awful races as it's quite difficult (to not say impossible) to pull away alone and they make big trains all race long because alone you can't do nothing, even though the DRS strength on those tracks isn't great. I even consider races on Russia and Europe better than those if you look through this view of DRS trains! ?‍♂️
For Hungary and Spain, it would need a slightly reduction of the DRS strength and also increase their ability to generate tyre temperature to make it slightly easier to heat up the tyres so it will make PLs changes be more effective and part of the management skillset rather than running PL5 for most of the race on winter seasons ?

Another example of track which the strength of the DRS isn't important is Brazil. The problem is that keeping a car on S and PL1 for almost a full lap and only pushing on the twisted sector 2 is faster than trying SS alone, as the race usually runs at high temperatures (+20°C), and the pace on M isn't enough to keep up on most cases or the fuel weight is too big to handle it.

And there isn't much to be done about Italy and Austria due to the game mechanics (tyre heat ≈ speed)

Concluding, I think it's time to bury the Hards for good and focus only on the other 3 dry compounds and do another tyre balance, not only about tyre wear and pace, but also how easy is to build temperature into the tyres and their correct optimal temperature windows ?
If possible, add a base car weight to reduce the percentage significance of running low fuel (which usually is the biggest problem for M against SS/S) and increase the speed of the SS as a counter act to it.

This DRS is flawed argument is wrong IMO.  You are in front and have used up your DRS so you can’t really complain because others who haven’t go past you. If you hadn’t used up your DRS you probably wouldn’t be in front in the first place.

This is a strategy game not a F1 simulation do comparing it to real life F1 is pointless.

I'm sorry for banging on with the same argument, but if this game was 90% luck and determined by DRS in most cases, can someone please explain why it is that the same managers appear to win time after time. Why are these people so lucky?

Different circuits have different DRS characteristics. If you make them all the same the strategy / race craft for each circuit will become the same.

If every race becomes the same then it disadvantages those people who adapt their gameplay to cater for the different circuits and prevailing weather. All races being the same means that there is only one way to manage the race and this will result in luck determining the race results. The teams who are lucky enough to qualify at the front will almost inevitably win. So you look at the qualifying results, if you're not on the front couple of rows you may as well not bother to race but let AI sort it out for you.

That's exactly the point of the post! Most races ARE the same, the top half a dozen sit in the DRS train until the last couple of laps and then it's a DRS free for all. If your car is faster per lap than everyone else SURELY it should be a reasonable option to drive your own own natural pace? As it stands at the moment with DRS you simply CANNOT allow your car to pull ahead because you just get gobbled up by the DRS train SO you're only option is to cool your tyres to slow down thereby nullifying the very advantages you've worked hard to achieve just to get back in the pack. What's that got to do with racing? At the very least the gap that has naturally formed due to a much faster set up should be maintained by DRS but certainly not reduced. It's just silly.
P.S. It's a strategy game because Formula One IS a strategy game and the developers are constantly trying to make the game as realistic as possible. And anyway, the concept of being penalised for being faster goes against the spirit of any form of racing, surely.

I'm fairly new to the game and have dominated the rookie league. I barely get to use DRS and in Singapore I didn't use any boosts whilst still winning by over half a minute. I don't seem to have the same experience as more competitive leagues maybe?
That said, on the times I have been caught by cars using DRS, it is frustrating... But isn't it meant to be? If you have the fastest car out there and are caught in a DR'S zone, then you should, in theory, catch and overtake in the remainder of the track.
Remember this is a game. It cannot represent real life. Games need to be fair or else new comers would just give up and leave (as is being seen in real life). A simple solution would be to half the DRS zone but that may not suit the mid to lower half of the tables. Another would be to add a % clean air bonus per win. This allows the stronger teams to become a little more distant with each win. There are some in real F1 who say DRS offers unfair advantages so maybe DRS is designed to be unfair and contentious?

Halving the DRS zone seems to be the most popular way of making the game more flexible but in a way you've hit the nail on the head, the faster cars get annoyed with DRS because it drags them back to the pack unfairly but the slightly slower cars love DRS because it stops a faster getting an advantage. I think on balance and all things considered the fair thing to do would be shorten the DRS on the obvious tracks like Austria, Italy and Hungary were it is completely unfair but leave it alone on the other tracks where it doesn't have such a detrimental effect. After all DRS wasn't designed to enable you to win the race, it was brought in to simulate drafting which due to modern aerodynamics had basically stopped happening and allowed you to overtake a similarly paced car.
