New Game wins the battle & I have only done one race so far.

The tyres work well & the push levels are nicely set. Well in Australia anyway everything is as it should be have to wait to see the rest.

push level. wheres that!

there is a wee slide bar on each driver you can move it up and down to make the driver more defensive or attacking

Either I'm blind or I cannot see any slide bar.

I can not see any push level bar either, so Jack, can you post a screenshot of it, since we are a few that can't see it?

Take the screenshot from the public end of the beta website. Do you see under each driver where it says "PUSH LEVEL" and the green slider underneath it? You can slide that from one end to the other on the scale. Are you seeing that? Or is it not clear enough?

I enjoy the new version, just I like the old website feeling of the old version a bit more. Maybe when the new version is released there could be an option template between the old and the new version?

Ah, I haven't done a race yet, I meant how to set push levels in Next race Setup, where I can pick tyres and fuel levels for the upcoming race.

Oh, I see John. That's not available yet, but it should be easy to add.

That's not possible for various reasons, but the main reason is one I've mentioned a few times - it's a totally new game built from scratch, and doesn't even use the same underlying code.

That was one thing that always annoyed me about the game. I could spend my time researching old races, comparing weather notes, trying to work out an unusual strategy that might give an advantage, but no one had tried yet. If I was in a hurry to do setups, but couldn't live race I would use the drivers previous setup and strategy, but would forget to change push levels, my tires would be on fire or blocks of ice, race ruined.

I think that push levels should be live management only, the driver A.I. should be able to race without being told when and how to push. They should be at a disadvantage over the drivers that are live managed, but not too many laps behind.

I was starting to think the race screen loaded up and over ran the window size that people where saying there is no push level :D

Gareth everyone uses the same viewer there only is one :)

Regarding the race screen, i would like to say, i prefer the old, separate windows look of before. The clicky pop open windows for chat and timing isn't working for me.

It's important for the timing screen to include as much detail in a single display as possible.

and i feel having separate chat, pit management, and timing screen windows is still better. Having to click around and drop down separate windows to check the times, tyre performance, and pit strategy makes it really hard to calculate pit strategy and not to make pit mistakes. Also, clicking on chat or pit window will block the race track progress screen.

And overall, i think a simpler more technical interface with more detail would work better, than fancy buttons etc...

sincere suggestions. hope you can consider working on this.

I complained a lot in closed beta about the lap times and sector times not being visible together. I'd really like a tab in the webGL viewer that shows me a grid list with the sector times, gap, lead gap, and lap times.

Cory, I think it shows that we designed the GUI for mobile first, then tablets, then pc. A lot of what has happened in the desktop gui development has been cobbled together quickly to get it to testing, so we can find bugs now rather than waiting weeks longer to refine the system. This had nothing to do with the priority of each platform, but how difficult it was going to be to design for each one. Mobile is actually the hardest to design for because the screen is so small. Desktop is easy in comparison because you can just waste so much space and have windows floating all over the place.

Although in closed beta testing the GUI was very popular a lot of people are missing the old "windows" GUI for races on desktop. This is not really a surprise, and we need to optimise the desktop GUI and will do so in the weeks ahead. It's unlikely that it will go back to floating windows all over the screen though.

We're also trying to make sure it stays consistent and familiar across platforms. The current gui looks and feels the same on every single platform so it would be easy to switch seamlessly and not have to adjust how you use it. In testing with the developers privately I can tell you it's really satisfying to play a bit on my pc then switch to my phone when I get called away. It's a totally new experience and I think everyone will start to see this all making more sense when the apps arrive.

I agree that the desktop implementation has to be improved though in the live race. I'm starting to wonder if the new timing toggle is just downright confusing, how we can improve chat and strategy and keep some kind of view of the race without making the gui inconsistent with other platforms. We'll figure something out. Desktop is getting some love now with the open beta and our full attention on desktop launch for a while. :)

Henry, specifically what are you having problems with? Can you give us some examples?

It's worth reiterating that the beta game is not the old game with a few tweaks, it's a new game, and a test version at that. If you're looking to play in exactly the same way as before, and have become used to the routine of the old game, it's different to what you're used to.

A lot has changed, but some things will be returning from the old game in the weeks ahead. I will make a thread on those today on the beta forum. I've explained, but might as well repeat, that trying to recreate everything from scratch when it took 5yrs to build in the first place was not possible, so some things that were deemed "low priority" for testing (like detailed race results, for example) were left out at first, and are being added back in one-by-one.

Obviously that wasn't 100% clear to people, and several people reacted assuming the very first beta = finished product and time to draw final conclusions. In reality, it's the start, it's evolving and will continue to evolve based on your feedback. Those who are communicating with us on the beta forums are seeing this. We're implementing features and tweaking the GUI to their feedback.

There will be tutorials included in the finished game, when it goes live. We didn't have time to make these for the open beta, though, and since we're looking for bugs more than anything it wasn't that important to add yet.

I think some people don't fully get what the beta is.

It isn't the old game with a new skin and bits removed nor is it the new game (yet). It's more a work in progress and bughunt. In some ways the lack of instructions is a better approach  (whether intended or not) players will click things to see what they do and be unable to find things which need to be made more obvious by the developers. That is what a beta is for imho, it isn't a golden ticket to play a new game before the rush.

Going back to the original question, before the first race I was doubtful as to whether I would like what I perceived to be a Fisher Price version of a game I really enjoy playing.

After the first race and seeing the race viewer I still wasn't convinced but was prepared to give it the benefit of the doubt, with a few more races came the realisation that there is much more to it than first appears and I'm now beginning to quite like it especially with the new features added within the last few days and more in the pipeline.

There's a thread specifically designed to help you with this over on the beta forum:
http://beta.igpmanager.com/forum-thread/38

Are you using a browser version that is listed? You ideally need to be on the very latest version of Chrome, Firefox, IE or Edge.

What are your hardware specs? Without any of this information we can't do anything to help.

We've had some people say it doesn't work only to find out they are on Windows XP... even Microsoft don't support that OS anymore. It's 15 years old. That's like trying to install a game from the year 2000 on a computer from 1985.

I've been thinking this same thing. Some players don't understand the open beta's purpose and are playing it as if it's the final product, when in fact it's in a test phase for debugging purposes on a volunteer basis. The developers need everybody in open beta to search for bugs as well as provide feedback so they can understand how the end user is utilizing it so that the product can continually improve even after it launches. And while there are players providing feedback, there aren't enough people in the open beta voicing how much they like or dislike certain aspects of the open beta and how they could be improved upon if need be.
