What has changed?

Hard tyres and Medium tyres now wear more relative to other tyres

All tyre wear rates are scaled to the race duration

How have wear rates for Hard and Medium tyres changed?

Hard tyres now wear about as fast as the Mediums used to

Medium tyres now fall between the old Soft and new Hard tyres in wear rate

How has wear rate been scaled to race duration?

100% race duration - tyres wear 0.5 times the old rate

75% race duration - tyres wear 0.66 times the old rate

50% race duration - no change (except Hards and Mediums now wear faster relative to other tyres)

25% race duration - tyres wear 2 times the old rate

NOTE: These changes are intended to reduce the dominance of Hard tyres. We consider this to be the start of the changes to re-balancing tyres, not the end. This is the first step towards improved tyre balance, and we will be responding all week to your feedback on the changes and making further adjustments.

Singapore - 100% race distance.

First 2 runs on old tyre wear stats, final 3 on new stuff, softs only 3% wear and supersofts wear rate has almost halved at 7% per lap, maybe a bit much?

Hards and mediums both 2% per lap.

Supersofts-7%
Softs-3%
Mediums-2%
Hards-2%

It was testing at 100% race distance that made us decide to increase the wear rate of Hards to where Mediums used to be, before applying the race duration scaling on top of that. It definitely looks like 100% probably has some challenges now with the halved wear rates.

Bear in mind, as we've said all along, we see this as something we'll implement in stages. Originally our intent was to only scale tyre wear to race duration in this update - but we decided to increase wear rates on Hard and Medium tyres after seeing how they basically didn't wear in 100% race duration, and since everyone was unanimously agreed that Hards would be overpowered unless we either made them slower or increased their wear.

For 100% distance, I agree, it's a little too far.

Should be around 10% wear in my opinion for SS tyres at 100% distance (Gets it to around a 12 laps tyre span versus 18 laps at 7% wear)

Could be in, currently, for a few SS-only races (temperatures permitting)

Something to consider with 100% races though is fuel weight. Yes, the harder compounds can last an incredibly long time with scaling, but are stints that long worth doing? In F1 we've seen tyres that can last virtually a whole race distance, but they aren't fast enough to justify using them.

We'll see how this all pans out anyway, and make some more changes as and when they are needed.

Only one thing: if mediums now wear more than before they won't be choosen anymore.
They have always been slow but now they also wear faster, R.I.P. Medium tyres...

We'll look at re-balancing all of the tyres as we go along. The main change we wanted to implement today was scaling wear to race duration. It was a big change so we didn't want to go combining it with lots of other changes too.

First we want to see the implications in all live scenarios of the change in scaling to race duration, then we can look into the finer details.

I totally agree with David, it seems too much to me. I do not know if this reform solves the problem that I see, the time difference of the H, is better times than with the S.

what worries me is that now hards and mediums are not longer that usable as supersofts dont wear much and softs dont wear at all means that every race will be sitting on 1/5 push level as those 2 tyres overheat on 1/5 and softs on 2/5 and quite often also overheat badly on 1/5 push level so theres now no skill to managing tyres and temps and going up and down on push levels for each circumstance during managing a race, is there anyway to overcome this by changing the temperature range of those tyres to bring some skill back to it all Jack?
so softs hold temp on 3/5 & supersofts hold temp on 2/5-3/5, u need to be able to cool the tyres to bring tyre management back into the game after this update.

Super soft and softs now last way too long, no need to use any other tyres.

Softs can run 20 laps if temps stay under 26 degrees, even at 100 distance thats 2 stopping at all tracks, no more strategy, no more advantage to players that turn up to races, set push to level 1 and off you go.

I like the fact your trying to balance tyres but its wrong, tyres would have been fine if you gave hosts more options when setting leagues.

Simply limiting tyre numbrrs throughout the season would mean no need to balance tyres and it gives more strategy.
Offering more tracks keeps ppl guessing too.

Im not sure if you do but do you have devs actually playing in leagues, surely thats the bast way to sampke tyre wear, and to debug?

You've got a point here, before the occasional Super Soft stint was all right to do some relaxing and chatting but a whole race would be a bit boring. But first we'll have to see if this update really brings that predicted use to those tyres.

The mediums were mostly dead anyway. Also they only run shorter on 25 and 50%, about the same as before on 75% and longer on 100%.

We didn't just up durability, we scaled it. So it's only the case at 75% or 100% race duration that durability increased. It decreased at 25% race duration.

Of course as developers we can test things as much as we like, but ultimately in a live environment everything changes. People always do things you just don't do when you're trying something normally. In a single evening we get thousands of races and strategies worth of feedback, on all circuits and all race durations. This is not something having a developer in one league can ever hope to simulate in any reasonable amount of time.

If people want the tyres improved quickly, this is the fastest way to do it. Within just a few days I'm confident we can reach a good balance. Our intention is that by the end of this week, we'll have settled on a solution.
