Patience is a virtue. :)

And I assume everyone rather has a beta launch that goes as smooth as possible than one that has issues from the start generating complaints.

beta.igpmanager.com seems to be alive :P.

That's correct, although not formally announced (until now), the site is now going live on https://beta.igpmanager.com/.

Everyone is free to sign up, however the welcome dialogue is not ready yet. This will be prepared shortly. Since you beat us to the launch by about 30 minutes and discovered the URL, I'll let you get away with it. ;)

Everyone can sign up now if they want, but be prepared for a couple of things to be missing. We'll still be developing the game somewhat up to the launch - take the beta tag very seriously. :P

We haven't remade the trailer yet, and probably won't for a while.

Remember, this is a testing website, it is not a product launch. It has nothing to do with the live iGP Manager game until it is moved up to igpmanager.com.

Once the game is swapped over to the new version (currently beta), what will happen with our reward points?
md-quotelink

What you have here moves over to the new version. What you have in beta gets deleted.

So the reward points just become tokens?

I'm quite sad to see tokens, they remind me of top eleven and I hate how transfers works in that game.
Seems good atm tho, there are things that i dont like too much but never mind

I personally don't like the new iGP as much. It's nowhere near as exciting as the old iGP. I liked having to manage sponsor relationships and negotiate contracts instead of just bidding and immediately getting the driver. Also, everything is so much simpler now. Engines just give 1 bonus point to some stat instead of different points to different stats, which was interesting to choose between. Development is also a bit boring now. How do we develop the car for next season? Assigning employees to develop certain aspects is also fun. I also like having to change individual parts in the current iGP. It's difficult having to manage the wear rates on different parts and assigning mechanics to repair them. With the new system, one button fixes it all.

On one hand, I understand the simplistic nature opening the game up to more casual players, but on the other hand, for us players that enjoy the challenge of managing a team, I feel like the new iGP has lost it's magic that's made me want to play this in the first place.

That's correct. Tokens are reward points with a new name, clearer and more directly integrated in to the game. The old reward points options were hidden enough that not many people even knew they existed in the old iGP. The new game makes it much clearer.

In the meantime, I understand that many or our current desktop players come from a simracing background, and are probably going to have a skeptical reaction. As a former simracer myself, I know that we tend to be very fussy about realism and depth and being able to twiddle as many dials and guages as possible. We've done the best to broaden the appeal of the game to people who don't want to adjust spinners for hours without diluting the experience. When the app is released, it will look much more at home. It's no secret that we're designing for tablets first and desktops second now, which is behind a large part of the streamlining of interactions with the interface.

If you are a hardcore simracer, and find your initial impression is to wish for more depth, give it a chance. I think you'll find it's mainly more convenient to play, but the depth is still there. At least do a few races before drawing any conclusions. During closed testing, even the more skeptical players came around and saw that the depth is still there, and if anything, it was more fun.

I think that will be a positive thing as the community grows and we are able to expand on to tablets and phones. It will take more than 10 minutes to draw a proper conclusion, and in 10 months I think it will seem like the right move. The current game was developed over years, and the new one is just getting started. It is a totally new game, not built on top of the existing one, but a total rewrite. There will be more content added over time, but first stage is just about laying the new foundations down and getting on to mutliple platforms.

got to say i agree with this. im all for moving forward and trying to make a good thing better, but on first impressions this has gone unbelievably simplistic. such a shame. i will give it time and see if it changes my mind but first impressions are that my subscription wont be lasting much longer (sorry for the defeatism which i will probably get slammed for, but voicing my opinion)

The tyres work very differently in the new game. Super softs are not the tyre to use in the race any more, but they are good for qualifying. Mediums and Hards even are capable of winning races, so be willing to experiment with tyre strategy.

So, I don't think you'd want to do more than 3 stops, if you want to be competitive. However, it works like the current game if you don't make it to the finish, it will repeat your final stop. You'll also be able to adjust it in real-time in the live race.

Managing relationships is a pain in the ass, initially. Once the relationship is good, there's nothing challenging. There was nothing "challenging" about replacing components or assigning mechanics to repair them. There was nothing "challenging" about designing higher performing components, or assigning designers, signing in to check on them every day.

Jack's done the right thing and I think the experienced managers we had in closed beta and the many experienced managers who are now going to try their hand at open beta testing will say that the new version is much better. All the things that you claim are "challenging" but aren't, are gone (thank GOODNESS), and the actual things that are challenging are improved and focus is on improving the live management experience.

I advise everybody to test open beta and actually let it soak in. Think about what's different in the open beta versus the old iGP, and I think many will see that there is more convenience and enjoyment with all the unnecessary baggage gone.

+1. All I can say. :)

The focus now is now more on managing the race and that for sure has become way more challenging than before as you have all 4 tyre compounds performing well with a whole range of strategies to think of.

I'll reserve my final judgement after I've played with the beta more. However, I think that leaning towards mobile/tablet development so strongly will be detrimental to the game as a whole.

For example, some of the most entertaining parts of iGP, developing individual parts of the car and contract negotiating will be sorely missed for me. I think that the development and replacement of individual parts could definitely have been left in, instead of changing the car development to something less connected to the real world, using points assigned to a certain characteristic of the car. That's one of the big reasons why the current iGP is more appealing to me than say... a certain Manager of Motorsport game on the Android/iOS app store.

Having to change certain parts of the car due to wear and tear feels more connected to an actual "GP experience" than the 'Fix Car' system implemented in the new beta.

EDIT: However, my criticism of these aspects of the game doesn't mean I'm completely against the new version of iGP. I like the new UI, and it's much snappier than before. I just don't think I need to mention the good parts of the new iGP because those don't need improving! :)
